Back in Business

We are thrilled that Maine's vaccination efforts over the last few months have allowed us to resume participating in almost all of the things we love doing. For our Members, that means once again conducting business mostly unencumbered by any operating constraints.

For the Chamber, that translates to hosting events again where members can ideally benefit from meeting other local business leaders, as well as learn more about various ways to grow their business and profitability.

As such, we've got a solid schedule of Chamber events going forward... next week's activities include:

And we're looking forward to our ChamberFest event, slated for August 3rd at Mechanics Park in Biddeford. We hope you can join us for some or all of these event opportunities! Give us a call or just reach out to us via an email reply for more details if you like.

The Marvelous Wonderettes Biddeford City Theater's Next Show

The Biddeford City Theater will soon be rocking again when The Marvelous Wonderettes take the stage. This fun music-themed show will be running from July 23rd through August 7th, with shows on Friday and Saturday night along with a Sunday matinee option. The show is a cotton-candy colored, non-stop pop musical. Act 1 takes the audience to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where we meet the Wonderettes – four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts and voices to match. In Act II, the Wonderettes reunite to take the stage and perform at their ten-year reunion. We learn about their lives and loves as the girls perform classic ‘50s and ‘60s pop songs. Recap: the Business-Building Benefits of Embracing Diversity

The Chamber recently hosted a virtual information session with leaders from Infinity Credit Union, detailing their proactive efforts to work successfully with immigrants and refugees. Investments in language skills, diverse personnel, and educational efforts have resulted in demonstrable business gains. All of Maine's population and workforce growth recently has been from immigration, so this is an important community and market segment for all Maine businesses to address. Thank you Infinity FCU for sharing your insights and ideas! If you'd like to learn more, please let us know.

Immigrant / Refugee Employer Survey

Growing Employment Opportunities for Refugees is a project of the Office of Maine Refugee Services at Catholic Charities Maine. They work with refugee populations who receive TANF. They also work with local employers promoting their readiness and ability to hire refugees and immigrants. Here is a survey they developed to assess employers’ needs. It’s very simple and will only take a few minutes to complete. Thank you in advance for providing helpful information to make this program as impactful as possible!
