Abide Friends
Sunday, May 5, 2024

9 As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11 I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.
12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. 16 You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. 17 I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another.

HUMC Loves Our Community Teachers and Staff
HUMC will celebrate the teachers and staff at our community partner schools, Tulip Grove Elementary and Dodson Chapel Childcare @ HUMC during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6-10. Because of your generous giving to this church/school partnership, we will celebrate and say “thank you” with a catered lunch from Whitt’s, as well as a small gift for each teacher/staff.

In addition, we would love to provide on-going surprises to teachers throughout the school year with random gift card giveaways. Dr. Allyson Johnson, TGE Elementary Principal, said that these random, periodic gifts are so appreciated (and fun!) for teachers and staff.

How can you help? At your convenience and as you are able, purchase a gift card ($5.00-$20.00) and return it to Sharon Golden or Joey Parker at the church office. Perhaps you have recollections of a favorite teacher from years ago, but you are no longer able to communicate that direct appreciation. Consider gifting a gift card in honor of that teacher.

As always, your prayers, service, and gifts to our community partner schools are recognized and appreciated. If you have questions, please contact Tammy Ramsey (615-773-7847 or helpforkids@comcast.net) or Sharon Golden (615-883-3918, ext. 114 or sharong@humc.org).
It is time for VBS Registration!
Click below to register a child or to volunteer!
Adults and youth are needed to make this a special time for all involved!
Please join us for a monthly hymn sing on the second Sunday of each month from 2:00 PM - 2:30 PM. The next one is scheduled for May 12. Please join us in the sanctuary to sing hymns together.
FOOD PANTRY UPDATE

The Food Pantry is open this Saturday, May 4 to provide our guests with food. This food ministry is part of fulfilling God's promise to so many who are in need!

One of the names of God is "Jehovah Jireh" which means "The Great Provider". Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord, your provider, gives you what you need! I have to admit, I have never been in the position of not having enough food in my house for my family. This must be a scary and painful realization for anyone to face. The people who visit the Food Pantry know this pain and fear and yet what we see on Saturdays are mostly smiling faces! The smiles from the guests are there because they know that good food is available for them. They may not know the name "Jehovah Jireh", but before they leave the building I pray they know that it is God's miracle that provided this food for them. I pray that as you face problems this week, remember God's promise that He will fulfill your needs. It may not arrive when you think you need it, but whatever you have need of, God always gives in his perfect timing. Trust in Him for all your needs and praise Him for being the provider of the past and the provisions of the future.

Slots are now open for all shifts on May 3 and 17 (assist with Second Harvest Food Deliveries) and May 4 and 18 (provide food to our guests). If you can serve, please "sign up" by clicking the button below or by contacting one of the following:
