ACADEMIC CONSIDERATION FOR EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES

The Academic Consideration Request Portal is now open for the Spring/Summer 2022 academic terms.

Summer 2022 Academic Consideration Request Types:

Short-Term Requests for Academic Consideration for Extenuating Circumstances.
  • Up to three days (without supporting documentation). This option can only be used once per term and is not available for exams/deferred exams.
  • NEW: Up to five days (supporting documentation required). Please note that all requests submitted under the “up to three days” option can be extended until up to five days provided that supporting documentation which clearly supports the requested timeline is uploaded to the request.
Long-Term Requests for Academic Consideration for Extenuating Circumstances (up to 12 weeks). Supporting documentation is required for this request type and must support the timeline that you are requesting.
  • Requests that require beyond 12 weeks of academic consideration are considered ongoing and cannot be granted. Students who need additional support beyond this timeline should reach out to Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS) to secure academic accommodation.

Please note that our Zoom Office Hours will be closed for the Summer 2022 term, from May 21 to September 13, 2022. If you require support during this time, please contact the Academic Consideration Team at asc.consideration@queensu.ca. We encourage you to review the Academic Consideration for Extenuating Circumstances website as well as the COVID-19 Related Absence Reference Guide prior to contacting the Academic Consideration Team for a more timely reply. Responses can take up to 48 business hours to be received.
MEDIAL RENAMED TO JOINT HONOURS

The Faculty is excited to announce the official renaming of the Medial which, following the awarding of Spring 2022 degrees, will officially be known as the Joint Honours. This terminology is more reflective of the degree plan and is more widely understood in the Canadian university landscape.

The Spring Class of 2022 will be the last to graduate with medials. Students currently or subsequently registered in medial plans will have their records updated to Joint Honours automatically.

Read more about the renaming in the news story: Read more about the renaming in the news story: FAS renames medial degree plan to Joint Honours.
NEW FRONTIERS IN RESEARCH FUND

The 2022 Exploration stream competition of the New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF) has been launched. All competition documents are available on the 2022 Exploration website. The competition has two stages:

ENVIRONMENTAL DNA WORKSHOP

The Queen’s University Biological Station (QUBS) is offering a four-day Environmental DNA Workshop this summer from July 25 - 29 that will benefit those interested in eDNA research, evaluating research proposals and natural resource management.

The workshop includes lectures, field and lab demonstrations, and hands-on training in analysis and interpretation of data, but does not require detailed knowledge of genetics or molecular biology. Participants in the workshop will receive certification from Queen’s for the training. Read the story: New workshop explores real-world applications of EDNA.

If you are interested, or have students who may be interested in this workshop, please visit the Queen’s University Environmental DNA Workshop webpage to learn more.
