SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

School Presentation: A.E. Arnold Elementary School

Members of the Arnold Student Leadership team shared how they support the school's ROAR (Responsibility, Organized, Acting Safely, and Respectful) initiative by setting good examples for their peers and reinforcing behavioral expectations.

School Board Recognition Month

Superintendent Silavs presented a proclamation honoring the Board of Trustees during School Board Recognition Month for their leadership and contributions to the students in our community.

BOARD ACTIONS

Consent Agenda

The Board approved a number of routine consent items, including gifts and grants to the district, human resources transactions, purchase orders and checks, and agreement renewals. Details regarding these items can be found in the Board meeting agenda.


2021/22 School Accountability Report Cards

Education Code requires that all public schools receiving state funding prepare and distribute a School Accountability Report Card (SARC) to provide parents and the community with important information about each school. The Board approved publication of the 2021/22 SARCs on the district website. Printed copies may be requested by email or calling (714) 220-6922.


After School Education and Safety Grant

The Board adopted a resolution authorizing submission of the district’s After School Education and Safety program grant renewal application for the 2023/24, 2024/25, and 2025/26 school years.


Professional Development Related to Trauma-Informed Practices

The Board approved contracting with WestEd for professional development for preschool and transitional kindergarten teachers on trauma-informed practices at a cost of $3,000. Teachers will learn about the impact of risk and trauma on young children and their families, as well as how to use data from the Desired Results Developmental Profile assessment to identify student needs and strategies to address those needs.


Professional Development Related to Student Academic Intervention

The Board approved contracting with Lindamood-Bell for two days of professional development for certificated staff on student academic intervention at a cost of $40,300. The training will focus on use of evidence-based intervention programs for language comprehension, oral language expression, and mathematical understanding.


Specialized Student Transportation

A master agreement was approved with HopSkipDrive, Inc. under which the district may contract for specialized transportation services for students with disabilities on an as-needed basis. Individual student costs will be submitted for Board approval as contracted throughout the year.


Student Teaching Affiliation Agreement with Grand Canyon University

The Board approved an agreement with Grand Canyon University to provide fieldwork experience to their students through June 30, 2026.


Districtwide Summer Deferred Maintenance Project

A Notice of Completion was approved for the 2022 Districtwide Summer Deferred Maintenance Project by M.P. South, Inc. at a total cost of $1,317,798.35. Work included asphalt repair/replacement at Arnold, Luther, and Damron (Del Sol); roof replacement at Vessels daycare; HVAC replacement at Luther; exterior painting at King, Luther, and Morris; drainage improvement at Arnold; and water bottle drinking fountains at Arnold, King, Landell, Luther, and Vessels.


Luther Parking Lot Expansion Project

A Notice of Completion was approved for the 2022 Luther Parking Lot Expansion Project by M.P. South, Inc. at a total cost of $584,178.08. The project involved expansion of the parking lot to meet staff parking and bus transportation needs associated with relocation of the district’s moderate/severe special education program.


2021/22 Audit

Education Code requires an annual audit of all funds of the district and pupil attendance procedures. The Board received the 2021/22 audit report from Nigro & Nigro, PC which identified two findings, 1) Attendance accounting misstatements related to Average Daily Attendance, and 2) Late submission by one day of the district’s Expanded Learning Opportunities Grant plan to the state.


Governance Consulting Services

An agreement with the California School Boards Association was approved for a three-hour Leadership/Educational Partners workshop on March 16, 2023, to discuss district strengths, needs, and opportunities to support the educational program at a total cost not to exceed $3,200.

INFORMATION/DISCUSSION ITEMS

Williams Legislation Uniform Complaints

The Board received a report indicating the district received no complaints regarding deficiencies related to instructional materials, emergency or urgent facilities conditions that pose a threat to the health and safety of pupils or staff, or teacher vacancy or misassignment during the second quarter of the 2022/23 school year.
