Rx for Resilience: Ignite

August brings the beginning of a new academic year.  To all educators, administrators, students, families with students, bus drivers, support staff, counselors, janitors and all who welcome the learning year, we wish you a wonderful, strong start to go ignite the bright potential of this year.

The first day of school jitters can fill some with energy and excitement for a new chapter. Others can be overcome with anxiety and stress as the piles of work grow and grow. Many of us waver between these two realities. Today, we reflect on the power each of us has to ignite a flame of ambition that will burn throughout the academic year into the new areas of growth of which we are all capable.

To our educators and administrators, we acknowledge the difficulties in your job. As we come out of COVID and face the disconnect students have had socially and academically, you are building a culture of connection and growth. It is easy to take on more and more roles, leading to exhaustion and burnout. How can you keep your flame burning? What can you do to prioritize your own self-care and wellbeing to ensure you can maintain a supportive, engaging learning environment for the whole year? What fills you up? What boundaries do you need to set to guard your time and priorities? Who is your network, supporting you and helping re-ignite your flame when you are burning low? Reflect and identify what a sustainable work environment and daily life looks like so that you can be set up for success and stamina throughout the year.

To our students and families with students - it is time for a new beginning. Perhaps you are entering your final year before a transition to high school or higher education. Maybe you are a freshman, entering a new building for the first or campus for the first time, knowing no one. To those of you who are transferring schools, not only is it a new year, but you are exploring a new location, culture, and community. Whatever position you may be in, the school year brings both joys and challenges. What are you most looking forward to this year? What clubs, groups, or activities will you join to explore your passions and talents? How will you balance your work demands with your learning goals and family obligations? How are you preparing yourself to face the challenges that come with heavy workloads and testing seasons? Who is your network of support and encourage you when you in your time of need?

Learning is not always easy, and learning can hold many challenging seasons. Reflect on how you can set yourself up for success from this day forward , allowing for a more sustainable academic year of conscious choices. What is your WHY? Why are you pursuing your education? Why are you serving as an educator? What difference to you want to make in the world? What lights your flame? Ignite your ambition to learn and enter the 2022/2023 academic year with a powerful start and a match, candle or torch which you hold high to light the way for yourself and others.
June 2022 Conference Summary in Photos and Videos
