Nominations Open for IFIP IP3 2021 David O’Leary Award
|

Nominations are now open for the 2021 IFIP IP3 David O’Leary award, an award recognizing ICT professionalism. The award was named in honour of David and his commitment to ICT professionalism, and is funded by REDDS Capital.
David, who passed away in 2018, was a native of British Columbia Canada whose made significant contributions to ICT in academic, scientific, government, and industry at the provincial, national and international level.
CIPS members may know him best as a former CIPS BC President but he was also an academic Dean, a member of the government ICT Sector Council, and speaker at global conferences for the UN and IEEE. He was also founding CEO of Igen Knowledge solutions, contributor to IDG-IT World, and founding general partner of REDDS Capital.
The award acknowledges an individual or organization that has promoted and demonstrated Professionalism (Professional Practice), has worked as an Ethics Evangelist, and/or has made strides in fostering diversity among ICT practitioners. An individual or organization can be nominated.
The David O’Leary award includes a cash prize of USD1500, and travel to IFIPs General Assembly to receive the prize!

Digital Transformation in Government Conference (June 15-17)
|
|
The 2nd Annual Digital Transformation in Government (DTiG) Conference is hosted by the ISACA Ottawa Valley Chapter, the University of Ottawa and the Association of Enterprise Architects (AEA) and is conducted in partnership with the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS), and the International Institute for Business Analysis (IIBA).
The conference brings together government professionals, private sector practitioners, and academia to share experiences, innovation and emerging standards and technologies in support of both government digital transformation (strategic effectiveness) and digitization (operational efficiency) initiatives.
Attendees will be able to claim CPEs, PDUs, or CEUs. A COBIT 2019 course will also be held on Monday, June 14th & Friday, June 18th, 2021 (15 CPEs).
The three days with have morning plenaries followed by managerial and technical streams in the afternoons at the new University of Ottawa facilities. Themes include (but are not limited to):
- Government Transformation
- Cyber-Security and Privacy
- Governance and Enterprise Architecture
- Management of Change
- Audit and Risk Management
- Integrating technology into business
- Government Design and Innovation

IFIP IP3 Talks Professionalism in Cybersecurity at WSIS Forum

IFIP IP3 (International Professional Practice Partnership) kicked off its involvement in the 2021 WSIS (World Summit on the Information Society) Forum this month with a moderated panel discussion on professionalism in cybersecurity on 13th April 2021.

The event, entitled: Building Resilience with a Professional Workforce”, was moderated by IP3 Chair, Moira de Roche, with the panel comprising:
- Steve Furnell, Chair of IFIP Technical Committee 11,
- Fred van Noord, President of the Netherlands Association for Information Security Professionals,
- Anthony Wong, IFIP Vice President and former ACS President, and
- Bob Weisman, CEO/Chief Enterprise Architect of Build the Vision and Professor of Digital Transformation, University of Ottawa.
Steve Furnell talked about international skills shortages, pointing to the (ISC)2 Cybersecurity Workforce Study which found two thirds of organisations are experiencing some level of skills shortage, with an estimated shortfall of 12 million practitioners. He also highlighted issues relating to current approaches which rely on qualifications when hiring staff or contractors, saying that they don’t guarantee experience or competence.

IFIP Celebrates 60 Years with Global Calendar of Events
|
|
To celebrate its 60th Anniversary, IFIP is collaborating with its Member Societies, Technical Committees, Working Groups and Partner organisations to stage a series of events around the world.
The events, which range from one-hour workshops to multi-day conferences, will be held under the banner of “Unimagined Futures”, which is also the title of IFIP’s 60th Anniversary publication. At this stage, more than 20 events virtual and in person/blended have been proposed, with most due to occur between June and November this year.
IFIP President Mike Hinchey said the 60thAnniversary is the perfect opportunity for IFIP to step up and be noticed.
“Over the past 60 years, IFIP has been actively working to advance developments in technology, encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing across the sector, and to raise professional standards.
“These 60th Anniversary events will allow IFIP to be more visible and start telling the world more about what we’ve been doing They will showcase the work of IFIP and its various member groups and promote their ongoing relevance, roles and contributions to international bodies like UNESCO, ITU, the UN, governments and society,” he said.
