As part of Generations United’s Diverse Intergenerational Programs Initiative, we are conducting a survey to identify and learn more about programs and activities that connect younger and older people. Webinar: Serving Hispanic and Latino Older Adults and Caregivers: Creative Approaches for Social Engagement and Connection
Join engAGED: The National Resource Center for Engaging Older Adults on May 31, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. ET for a webinar focused on social engagement among Hispanic and Latino older adults and caregivers. During the webinar, MHP Salud will share cultural considerations when working with Hispanic and Latino older adults and caregivers and tips, strategies, and lessons learned to help organizations create and implement social engagement opportunities. Ventura County Area Agency on Aging, Berks County Area Agency on Aging, and the Centro Hispano Daniel Torres will highlight social engagement programs and services they offer for Hispanic and Latino older adults and caregivers and discuss how other organizations can create and implement similar offerings. Thank you to Susan Russell for her donation in honor of Donna Butts, Ana Beltran, and Jaia Lent for their decades of service to Generations United. Susan Russell worked at the MD Dept. of Aging in the early 2000s and had great respect for their leadership then. Think Intergenerational - Funding Opportunities
The Annie E. Casey Foun­da­tion is request­ing pro­pos­als for projects that address youth jus­tice reform and are led by youth or young adults who have been involved with the juve­nile jus­tice sys­tem. Pri­or­i­ty areas for projects are restora­tive jus­tice and prac­tices; pre­ven­tion prac­tices that divert youth from ini­tial con­tact with the juve­nile jus­tice sys­tem; expan­sion of com­mu­ni­ty-based sup­port for young peo­ple already engaged in the juve­nile jus­tice sys­tem; or solu­tions iden­ti­fied by youth or com­mu­ni­ty mem­bers with direct expe­ri­ence with the jus­tice system. Inter­est­ed orga­ni­za­tions should noti­fy the Foun­da­tion of their intent to apply today, Wednes­day, May 18, 2022. The dead­line for com­plet­ed pro­pos­als is Fri­day, May 27, 2022. The Administration for Children and Families in the Department of Health and Human Services has released the fiscal year 2022 application for kinship navigator funding. Applications are due by May 20. For more information, see the Program Instruction, Attachment A, and Attachment B.

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention in the Department of Justice is offering a grant called Reducing Risk for Girls in the Juvenile Justice System, which provides funding for communities to support girls who are involved in the juvenile justice system. There are two categories of funding available under this solicitation: (1) project sites and (2) training and technical assistance.
The Grants.gov deadline is May 23, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. ET. The Application JustGrants deadline is June 6, 2022, at 8:59 p.m. ET. Learn more.

The NIH Office of the Director has released a Notice of Intent to Publish a Funding Opportunity to support one RADx Tribal Data Repository (TDR), which will provide a repository for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) data. Applications are due by May 25, 2022. Learn more.

The Gladys Brooks Foundation provides support to libraries, educational institutions, and hospitals and clinics in Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. Funds support capital projects, including equipment and endowments. To apply, fill out an online Request Form. The form provides information on developing a Grant Proposal Letter, which must be submitted within two weeks of the Request Form. Grant Proposal Letters are accepted online until May 31, 2022. The Retirement Research Foundation is accepting applications for its grantmaking program in support of projects that directly impact the adult population aged 65 and older. Priority areas include caregiving, housing, economic security in later life, and social and intergenerational connectedness. Grants will be awarded in support of advancements in aging through various pathways, including advocacy, direct service, research, professional education and training, and organizational capacity building. Letters of inquiry are due by June 1, 2022, and selected applicants will be invited to submit full proposals by August 1, 2022. Learn more.

The Lewis Prize for Music has opened its 2023 Accelerator Awards application. Organizations that empower youth through music in after-school and out-of-school settings are encouraged to apply. The deadline is June 3, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. PT. Learn more.

The Administration for Community Living in the Department of Health and Human Services is offering State Program Enhancement Grants to support approaches that build on advancements made under previous Lifespan Respite Care Program grants. Applications are due by June 14, 2022. Learn more.

New Resources and Research
GrandFamilies: The Contemporary Journal of Research, Practice and Policy has released its latest issue. Our own Ana Beltran, director of the Grandfamilies & Kinship Support Network, wrote one of the articles that is published in this edition of the journal. The issue is open-access.

"Nine Ways Grandparenting is Changing with the COVID-19 Pandemic," a research brief from the Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion and the Center for Aging and Policy Studies, "assesses the socio-demographic changes that have accompanied the COVID-19 pandemic and uses in-depth interviews ... conducted before the pandemic to illustrate how grandparenting is shifting."

Reinforcing a Strong Foundation: Equitable Supports for Basic Needs of Grandfamilies, the 2021 State of Grandfamilies in America Annual Report, includes updated national and state data on grandfamilies and key recommendations to address inequities and provide critical supports to serve grandfamilies well. Latino Grandfamilies: Helping Latino Children Thrive Through Connection to Culture and Family is a toolkit that is designed to give resources and tips to child welfare agencies, other government agencies, and nonprofit organizations so that they can better serve all Latino grandfamilies regardless of child welfare involvement. Sharing Our Space: A Toolkit for Developing and Enhancing Intergenerational Shared Sites is designed for individuals and organizations interested in creating an intergenerational shared site or enhancing services at their current site. Divided into 10 sections, the toolkit details every step of the development and operation process, from initial planning to sustaining long-term shared site programs. Learn more.

Making the Case for Intergenerational Programs provides rationale and facts to help make the case for intergenerational programs. It is based on a comprehensive review of the literature on intergenerational programs and highlights evidence-based findings on how intergenerational programs benefit everyone. Staying Healthy Across Generations: Vaccines are Essential for All Ages is an infographic that illustrates that vaccines aren't just for kids - they protect all generations - especially in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
