Laura Rothrock Named President of Long Island City Partnership

Laura Rothrock, a noted economic development strategist, will join Long Island City Partnership as its new president, starting September 6. She will also serve as the executive director of the Long Island City Business Improvement District, which is managed by LICP.


“I have advocated for New York City’s diverse neighborhoods and organizations for the majority of my career, so this opportunity comes as a full-circle moment,” Laura said. “I believe in the power of business improvement districts to advance opportunities across industry sectors and enliven neighborhoods for residents, visitors and workers. Long Island City is one of the most dynamic communities in the nation and I look forward to leveraging my experience to create measurable impact for those we serve.”

Last Week to Donate to Back to School Backpack Drive -

Deadline: Aug 31

New York City Council Member Julie Won is running a Back to School Backpack Drive to support neighborhood kids/teens in advance of the school year. Donate by August 31 and help her office reach its goal of collecting 1,000 new or lightly worn backpacks. School supplies are also accepted.

The Central Business District (CBD) Tolling Program, commonly known as Congestion Pricing, would create a toll for vehicles that enter or remain in Manhattan's most congested areas. Participatory Mapping Workshop - Aug 27

Artist and urban planner Cara Mitchell leads an interactive mapping workshop at MoMA PS1 (LICP Member). Participants are invited to contribute to a series of community-archived maps of Long Island City’s past, present, and future. Come prepared with stories about neighborhood heroes, local tips, and gathering places in Long Island City that you wish more people knew about.
