SNAP-Ed is a FREE, confidential nutrition education program that helps families manage food resources during tough economic times. The Extension Nutrition Team of knowledgeable nutrition educators provide practical, hands-on activities, and skills for healthy meal prep, as well as explore the importance of physical activity in a healthy lifestyle for the community members in the North Country.

Millions of people in the U.S. are

affected by mental illness each year!


Week One: Spreading acceptance and support. When it comes to mental health, small actions equal big impact.



  • If you are worried about your mental health or are worried about someone you know, there are resources and people out there who are willing to help, no matter what your situation is.


  • Talking about mental health helps promote acceptance and encourages people to seek help.


  • Whether we share resources, encourage others to seek help, or simply are there for someone when they need us, we instill hope and can help others to reach out when they need to most.

Week Two:

Strategies for managing mental health.

What does self-care look like to you?


  • There are so many ways to help our mental health and well-being. Practicing self-care should be made a priority.


  • Whether it is spending time with friends, taking part in a hobby that brings you joy, getting some much-needed sleep, deep breathing exercises, meditation, walking, going to the gym, or even cuddling with a pet, find what works for you!


  • When you take care of yourself, your physical and emotional health improve, you become more resilient and can find ways to manage stress in a healthy positive way.

1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year.

1 in 20 U.S. adults experience serious mental health illness each year.

1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year.

50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24.

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among people aged 10-14.

Americans toss about 19% of vegetables and 14% of the fruits they buy. In addition, fruits and vegetables are often stored improperly. This can cause them to spoil quickly. Ensure you are storing your food correctly and safely to reduce food waste.

We are excited to announce our newest partners, Clifton Fine Primary Care and Healy Medical Practice with Cornell Cooperative Extension - SNAP-Ed Fruit and Vegetable Prescription Program. A big Thank You to the providers that continue to partner and support this great program!


Wondering what Fruit and Vegetable Prescription Program (FVRx) is?

FVRx is program for patients with food insecurity or chronic disease (diabetes, obesity, hypertension, etc.). The class is a 6-week interactive nutrition workshop provided by SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educators! Individuals will receive a $25 voucher per class to purchase fruits and vegetables from a participating vendor. Yes, that's right! $150.00 total in vouchers after 6 workshops towards fresh fruits and vegetables for you and your family!


Ask your provider today for a referral!

If you need help applying for SNAP, call or email a Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP) Coordinator. NOEP Coordinators tell you if you may be eligible for SNAP, answer any questions you may have, and help you complete and submit your application. It is free and confidential.
