Lovejoy Community,

I would like to extend heartfelt gratitude for the members of the Lovejoy ISD Financial Sustainability Committee (FSC). This group has met since early December to assess and make recommendations related to budgeting and long-range financial planning. At the Board Workshop on Monday night, representatives from the FSC presented to the Board of Trustees. Stakeholders shared recommendations on measures to strategically balance financial decision making with Lovejoy ISD’s mission and commitment to the Lovejoy experience. The FSC consisted of the following four subtopic groups identified by stakeholders on the committee.

The four FSC subcommittees developed the following strategic targets, strategies, and key indicators.

A special thank you to the following FSC Members for presenting the committee recommendations at the Board Workshop.

Courtney Claborn, Teacher

Matt DuBois, Parent

Justin Goertz, Parent

Anna Koenig, District Administration

Rebecca May, Campus Administration

Lovejoy Visual Arts is ecstatic to announce that Ella Reaugh ('22) was named a 2022 U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts! Ella was one of 3 visual artists selected for this prestigious honor awarded to 20 artists of approximately 5000 candidates across the nation. Scholars are selected annually by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars, appointed by the President, based on academic achievement, personal characteristics, leadership and service activities, and writing ability. The U.S. Presidential Scholars award—one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students who exemplify academic excellence, leadership qualities and community service—is presented on behalf of the President of the United States and honors up to 161 graduating high school seniors of high potential each year.

Lauren Snelling, artistic director of YoungArts, said, “The 2022 U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts demonstrate both a dedication to academic achievement and a commitment to creativity in mediums spanning the visual, literary and performing arts. YoungArts is incredibly proud to celebrate these young artists today and to amplify their innovative perspectives as they grow to become the arbiters of our nation’s cultural compass tomorrow.”

“Our 2022 Presidential Scholars represent the best of America, and remind us that when empowered by education, there are no limits to what our young people can achieve,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “Today, I join President Biden to celebrate a class of scholars whose pursuit of knowledge, generosity of spirit, and exceptional talents bring our nation tremendous pride. Throughout one of the most trying periods in our nation’s history and amid our recovery from the pandemic, our students have once again demonstrated their strength and that they have so much to contribute to our country. Thanks to them, I know America’s future is bright.”

Lovejoy ISD could not be more excited and proud of Ella for this incredible honor. Ella is an exceptional example of service, selflessness, work ethic, commitment to a personal vision and drive that our visual art program aims to instill in all of our artists.

7 of our 10 LHS Robotics Teams (LHS = 1082) went to the VEX World Championship and did amazing! We capped off our season with every team winning some matches, fighting until the end and giving it every ounce of effort they had. Some nearly pulled all-nighters before the final day making repairs, programming, and build changes to ensure their robot performed at its peak ability.

The following teams achieved the following ranks in their respective divisions:

  • 1082C - 40th
  • 1082K - 19th - Made it to the elimination round playoffs
  • 1082R - 67th
  • 1082X - 40th - Made it to the elimination round playoffs
  • 1082Y - 43rd

Keep in mind these teams represent a little less than 4% of the world's 22,000 teams. To make it to this point and still rank in the top half of teams (Divisions had 80+ teams) is an incredible feat!

In addition to the above results, we had two teams end up as Division Quarterfinalists.

1082Z was ranked 15th after qualifications and they won their first playoff match and then ended as quarterfinalists! Amazing job to such a young team!

1082E was ranked 17th after qualifications and they won their first playoff match and then ended as quarterfinalists! Fantastic job by this group of hardworking engineers.

We are Lovejoy Proud of our Robotics students and Coach Josh Strickland for all of the dedication and success. "Thank You!" to the entire Lovejoy Community for your support and especially to the parents. You are the foundation to our successful program and we can't wait to have another successful season next year!
