Dear Friends of the BABC Northern California,
I hope you are all enjoying the Spring sunshine! And while the stock market heads in a different direction to our temperatures I believe the return of networking events is probably the best barometer of the Bay Area’s business climate. It should therefore come as no surprise to learn that our BABC team has been incredibly busy with our events program filling the calendar with fantastic opportunities for us all to get back together, socialize, network and learn about what’s happening here in the Bay Area’s British American Business community.
On April 21st, we held a celebration of St. George’s Day and new member drive (Photos) in partnership with the British Benevolent Society at The King George Hotel in San Francisco. The event was very well attended and for many, this was their first adventure into the City post Covid. I’d like to thank our sponsors, Penfolds and Kearsley for their support, as always.
On Wednesday, April 27th, 2022 we held the 32nd Annual Economic Forecast Luncheon at the City Club. With over 90 guests in attendance (Photos), the event was a resounding success. It was wonderful to be back in business with in-person networking and to hear from our experts on what we can expect for the economy this year and going in to next. Our thanks to Panelists Richard Waters, West Coast Editor for the Financial Times, Yung-Yu Ma, Chief Investment Strategist at BMO Wealth Management, Sean Randolph, Senior Director of the Bay Area Council Economic Institute and Darron Maloney, CFO of NCC Group.
Next up, on April 28th was our first Happy Hour for Brits and Anglophiles living in Marin (Photos), held at The Junction Beer Garden. A lovely warm evening in a casual and relaxed setting, it was a great opportunity for members living in the North Bay to get together, minus the commute. These events will be held quarterly so mark your calendars for the next one on July 28th. You can register here.
Upcoming, I’m pleased to announce we will be hosting an Afternoon Tea to commemorate Her Majesty the Queen’s Jubilee at the San Francisco Fairmont Hotel on Nob Hill. The event is shaping up to be a special celebration of her 70 years as Queen. Tickets are selling quickly so if you’d like to join us, don’t delay.
Also upcoming, please mark your calendars for the 66th BABC Annual General Meeting on June 29thfollowed by a Member Appreciation Reception. Non Members are invited to attend the reception to learn more about how the BABC can help you achieve your business goals. More details will follow.

On February 6th, 1952, at 25 years of age, Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the Throne of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth and is now the longest serving Monarch in British History. This year, she also celebrated her 96th birthday.
The BABC Northern California and the Saint Andrew's Society of San Francisco have come together to celebrate this momentous occasion and to honor the Queen for her sense of duty and her devotion to a life of service for the past 70 years.
Join us on June 12th at the fabulous Fairmont Hotel, San Francisco for a fun-filled afternoon to commemorate the British Monarchy's longest serving member of the Royal Family. Promised to be one of the best events this summer!

|
BABC members are invited to join us on Wednesday, June 29th, 2022 at Werqwise, San Francsico for the 66th Annual General Meeting of the BABC Northern California to vote in the 2022-2023 Board of Directors, reflect on the activities of the BABC Northern California over the past year and mix and mingle with your fellow members!
Immediately following the Annual General Meeting will be a Member Appreciation Reception. Complimentary for members. On Thursday, April 28, 2002, fellow Brits and BABC Members gathered for our quarterly happy hour at The Junction’s beautiful outdoor beer garden in Mill Valley.
This event was a great opportunity to catch up with friends and meet more members of our BABC community living in the North Bay.

32nd BABC ECONOMIC FORECAST LUNCHEON |
|
On Wednesday, April 27th, 2022 we held the 32nd Annual Economic Forecast Luncheon at the City Club. With over 90 guests in attendance, the event was a resounding success.
It was wonderful to be back in business with in-person networking and by all accounts, the content and panel discussion was excellent. Moderated by Richard Waters, West Coast Editor for the Financial Times, we heard from Yung-Yu Ma, Chief Investment Strategist at BMO Wealth Management on the global economy and not surprisingly, the impact of the pandemic, soaring inflation, the war in Ukraine and its impact on the supply chain. Sean Randolph, Senior Director of the Bay Area Council Economic Institute shared his insights on how the global economy is affecting the Bay Area ecosystem and Darron Maloney, CFO of NCC Group dove in to the impact everything is having for his company and measures they have and are implementing to stay competitive in this challenging environment.

The guide acts as an overview of issues relating to remote working across a number of countries, where they identify key insights for employers internationally. They provide a country-by-country overview of relevant issues, and consider the practical questions employers should be asking when considering remote working longer term.

NEWS FROM THE ECONOMIC INSTITUTE: RELEASE OF NEW TECHNOLOGY MULTIPLIER |

The Economic Institute is pleased to provide the Bay Area Council Economic Institute’s new multiplier for non-tech jobs that are supported by activity in the technology sector as spending flows through the economy. This updates a similar analysis performed in 2012.

The second round of the US UK Transatlantic Trade Dialogues took place on 25th/26th April in Aberdeen where I was pleased to represent BritishAmerican Business members in a series of discussions hosted by the UK Secretary of State for International Trade, Anne-Marie Trevelyan and her counterpart, the US Trade Representative, Katherine Tai.
