Upcoming Master Artists Workshops

Gold Granulation on Argentium with

Ronda Coryell

May 17 - May 20

10:00 AM - 5:30 PM

Traditional 22k gold granulation is complicated and quite difficult. High karat gold granulation on Argentium is a fairly simple process. Adding high karat gold to Argentium results in the ultimate combination of gold and the beautiful white color of Argentium silver and contrasts beautifully when a patina is added. You will make a ring and earrings and add 22k gold with fusing and granulating.

Saddle Hinged Earrings with

Alex Boyd

June 21- June 23

10:00 AM - 5:30 PM

In this class students will learn how to build a saddle setting for a drilled stone, riveting fragile materials without risking breaking the stone, building small hinges, making a safety catch for French hook style ear wires as well as many other tips and tricks. Intermediate to advanced metalsmithing skills are required for this class.

Chasing & Repoussé with Fabrizio Acquafresca

July 19 - July 23

10:00 AM - 5:30 PM

Under the careful tutelage of the Italian Master Fabrizio Acquafresca, students will learn Chasing and Repoussé in the Italian style. Through the proper use of various specialized tools, students will study and implement the classical Italian approach to transform sheets of metal into reliefs and other works of art. Students have the possibility to bring jewelry designs of their own choosing.

Metals Studio Hosts Potluck

Our metals studio recently hosted for the first time a studio-wide potluck dinner! Bringing together students from various classes, the event provided a unique opportunity for networking and building connections within our metals community. It was a delightful evening filled with good food and engaging conversations, marking the beginning of what promises to be a series of memorable gatherings.

Clay Students Impressed by Renowned Ceramicist's Studio Tour

The Craft Guild Intermediate/Advanced pottery group, under the direction of Jef Barton, had the opportunity to visit and tour with Dan Hammett, Professor Emeritus of Art/Ceramics. All were impressed by his studio space set-up and working conditions, his showroom full of creative artworks and the vast lush garden landscape of his property.

Instructor Spotlight

Laura Easterling

Laura Easterling heads our Bookbinding Department, having begun teaching beginner classes shortly after joining The Guild in 2011. She now instructs at all levels including our Kids Camps in the summer. Previously, she worked in preservation and restoration at UNT's rare book room, where she fell in love with bookbinding. Her favorite aspect of teaching is inspiring younger students in this art form.

Bookbinding allows for diverse mediums like watercolor, metals, and woodworking to enhance the process, often resulting in unique creations; our Guild uses goatskin leather from the UK. Laura highlights the vibrant bookbinder community on Instagram for discussion and collaboration. Visitors are encouraged to explore our bookbinding room with its specialty presses and equipment, including a large handmade board share/cutter dating back to the late 1800s. Classes cover beginning/intermediate bookbinding, fine binding, restoration and box making as well.
