Greetings from the Athletic Office!

Sports begin Monday for our Middle School Teams. If you are a student interested in playing softball or baseball, or participating in Track, and you're not yet signed up, please send back an email, and I'll get you in touch with our coaches.

For those of you signed up already, great! In order to simplify life a bit for all of you, I have arranged, with the weather's cooperation, for our first two days to be here at the High School / Middle School fields.  All practices will begin at 2:30 on Monday. You may change in the locker rooms, but do not store your school stuff (or anything) in there--in and out quickly!

Baseball and Softball will be in the Gym.  Baseball players, you are going outside.
Track and Field will meet in the mini-gym, but should plan to go outside as well.

Coaches will go over our COVID protocols, I will talk to each team, and we will get you to running, hitting, and throwing pretty quickly.

Parents: If you're wondering about the schedule, you can look here: Spring Combined Schedule.  IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a live schedule--meaning it's updated constantly--do not print it, and it can be a bit wonky on your mobile device. It is also where I store my game information as well. You'll see some odd notes, and stars, and stuff--that's for me to worry about. Coaches are asked to update that as soon as plans change.

We are looking forward to a full slate of games and meets this spring. Hope to see as many of you out there as possible Monday and Tuesday!

Mr. Dawson

Grade 8

Grade 8 continues with another week of hard work!

In Literacy, we are wrapping up our theme work and moving on to making connections between fiction and nonfiction reading. We’ve practiced self editing skill and writing revision and working with MLA format for essays and using direct quotations to support ideas and reactions to reading.

In Social Studies, students have continued their study of Ancient Rome. They’ve been building their note-taking skills as they learn about the history of the civilization and have been honing their investigative skills by completing a CSI activity about Caesar’s assassination.

In Math today students got to see the connection with systems of equations and the real world, working with cookies and brownies ( virtually ) or different prices of tickets. Soon we will be wrapping up this unit and having a summative later next week or the beginning of the next week. The students yet again have done a great job making connections between all of the different styles of problems.

In Science, we are continuing to explore aquifers and the underground water systems. We started a lab today for Core 3 and 4 (and will continue with Core 1 and 2 on Monday) that illustrates the effects of pollution on the water system.

Please continue to encourage independent reading at home! As always, we thank you for the support you provide at home.

Grade 7
April 4, 2021

Seventh Grade update:

ELA: Most students completed their argumentative research essays this past week. The deadline for this assignment is Friday, April 9th. This week, we will begin studying dystopian fiction. Over the next couple weeks, students will be introduced to a few different dystopian series, and then they will be selecting a novel to continue reading independently. They will use these novels in our next Reading Workshop unit: Dystopian Book Clubs.

Social Studies: This past week we focused on global inequalities and developing nations. This week we will finish up learning about global trade and start our economics summative: students will be exploring the economy of a Latin American country of their choice.

Science: Last week the students investigated how all living things on Earth are interdependent. We studied a pond ecosystem and our local forests by playing a game in class. This week, students will start an investigation on the Gulf of Maine and all the changes happening there right now. Please remind your child to always have earbuds or headphones for class. They will need them next week.

Math: Students completed Parts 1 and 2 of our summative assessment on addition of rational numbers last week. We then began to explore subtraction of rational numbers. This week students will complete their subtraction short stories and explore subtraction on our human number line.

Have a great week!
