Thought for the Week

Let us be quicker to praise than to find fault. Let us be quicker to thank others than to complain.

Children's Worship

Nancy Jeffries-Dwyer will lead “Seeds of Love: Cultivating Kindness in Our Hearts & Gardens”

While enjoying the activity of planting real seeds in little pots of earth this Sunday, we will explore together not only the seeds we plant in pots but also the goodness, kindness, and love that we plant in our hearts and in the world around us.

Scripture: Song of Songs 2: 11 - 13.

See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone.

Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come,

The cooing of doves is heard on our land.

The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance.

Children’s Activity:

I will provide small pots of earth and a selection of seeds for the kids to plant a variety of seeds: Butterfly Garden, Lady Bug Garden, Hummingbird Garden, etc. Each of these seeds will grow into plants that attract these wonderful creatures, reminding us of the beauty of God’s creation.

Green Up Day

Stowe Community Church’s Green Tips for May 2024!

Did you know that Vermont is the only state to organize a Green Up Day and they’ve done so for 53 consecutive years! Green Up Day was first held on April 18,1970 (see picture above) when Interstate highways closed from 9am-12pm for trash pick-up by over 70,000 volunteers. Children were bused across the state by their schools to clean up Vermont. The brainchild of Burlington Free Press reporter Bob Babcock, Jr., Green Up Day was endorsed by then Governor Deane Davis and funded for 10 years by the state. In 1979, the nonprofit organization, Green Up Vermont, took over fundraising and coordination of the event (learn more at https://greenupvermont.org/about-guv/.).

This year, Green Up Day Vermont wants Vermonters to set a Guinness World Record for the most recorded pledges to pick up trash in 24 hours. Make your pledge on the Green up Day website https://greenupvermont.org/

Lamoille County Food Share

Mission of the Month: Lamoille Community Food Share

The May Mission of the Month will honor CLiF (Children’s Literacy Foundation). This non-profit’s mission is to inspire a love of reading and writing among under-resourced children in New Hampshire and Vermont. CliF has provided free and inspiring literacy programs and brand-new books to under-resourced children up to age 12 in almost 85% of the communities in New Hampshire and Vermont.

CliF arranges for more than 65 professional authors, illustrators, poets, graphic novelists, and storytellers to give inspiring presentations to children. These memorable events help kids get excited about books, stories, reading, and writing. CliF holds nearly 1,000 events each year.

At almost every CliF event children can select new, high quality books of their choice from hundreds of titles. CliF also donates significant collections of new, high-quality children’s books to school libraries, public libraries, classrooms, shelters, affordable housing developments, and other locations where children and families may be found.

Early literacy skills are one of the strongest indicators of a child’s future success. Yet more than two-thirds of fourth graders from low-income families in New Hampshire and Vermont do not read proficiently. CLiF’s programs aim to increase children’s enjoyment of reading and writing; provide access to high-quality reading materials that meet the interests of young readers; and give families, schools, libraries, correctional facilities, and other organizations the tools they need to encourage literacy skills.

Printer Cartridge

Ink Cartridges!

Thank you for bringing your empty or no longer need ink cartridges to the church. We continue to mail the small empty ones to CA postage free and they send us a check. We take the large ink cartridges to Staples. They give us vouchers depending on how many people bought ink from Staples and gave the name of the church at checkout! However, Staples has changed their guidelines a little. At check out time instead of giving the name of the church we must give the church telephone number (802) 253-7257!!!

If you have friends or family in other states who help us when they buy ink from Staples, please tell them about our telephone number.

Thank you so much.

Musical Selections

Here I Am Lord; First Methodist Houston, 4/23/2023

This Sunday is Communion Sunday and as has become our regular practice, the congregation will sing the chorus of "Here I Am Lord" as the Benediction Response. Here's the whole hymn so you can practice!

Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing (2024, arr. Wilberg) | The Tabernacle Choir

An older but familiar hymn that's uplifting to singalong with is "Come They Fount of Every Blessing." Here's a particularly powerful version by the Tabernacle Choir. They point out in the notes that the author of this hymn was only 22 when he wrote it!
