Lakeway Summer Activities
While officially not Summer just yet, Summer activities have officially begun here in Lakeway. Here are a few of those activities you can enjoy starting this weekend:

Virtual Fishing Derby: The second annual fishing derby will take place starting today (June 4) through Sunday (June 6). Go fishing and send a photo of your catch alongside a measuring device to [email protected] to compete for biggest catch, smallest catch and most unique catch. Winners will be announced early next week. Click here for more details.

Aloha Pool Party: Step into your favorite luau clothes this Saturday (June 5) at the Swim Center from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to join in some games, dancing and more! You will also get a chance to learn authentic Hula dance from an instructor from Hawaiian Kona Isle. Drop-in rates apply. Click here for more details.

Beginner Paddle Board Class: This fun class will teach the basics of stand up paddle boarding and will take place at the Swim Center from June 5 through July 10 from 11 a.m. to noon. Walk-ins welcome, but the class is limited to no more than eight individuals. Cost is $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents.

Aqua Strengthen and Stretch: This class will use the resistance of water, along with drag resistant pool props to help condition muscles for strength, followed with stretching and relaxation. Classes will take place Wednesday evenings at the Swim Center from now through June 30. Call (512) 261-3000 for more information.

4th of July Events: Fireworks, a parade and another "Mermaid Day" are all planned for the 4th of July weekend. The theme this year is "America the Beautiful - A Symbol of Freedom." Lake Travis Film Festival
The Lake Travis Film Festival will kick off next week! The festival will run from Thursday, June 10 until Sunday, June 13 at various locations throughout the Lake Travis area. The festival kick-off will take place Thursday at the La Quinta Hotel here in Lakeway.

Along with an extremely diverse collection of over 90 short films, documentaries and features, this year's festival highlights a number of women-centric films such as Rise Above: WASP (pictured left) by Director Kara White. This is a short-form documentary about a special World War II unit made up entirely of women.

Short films are a natural fit for the "pop-up" style of the Lake Travis Film Festival. This year, the festival will showcase over 16 hours of short, live-action narrative. It will also include short documentary films featuring a wide assortment of genres, styles and topics. The festival also includes a young filmmaker showcase, a music video showcase, bowling and afterparties throughout the Lake Travis community.

COVID-19 Update
If you still need a COVID-19 vaccine, the Central Texas Counties Vaccine Collaborative is offering another opportunity this weekend. No appointments will be necessary for another vaccine event happening today (June 4) through Sunday (June 6) at the Travis County Exposition Center located at 7311 Decker Lane. Anyone age 12 and above will qualify to get their first free dose of the Pfizer vaccine. The event is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each of those days. Click here for details.

A total of 83,878 cases have been reported to date in Travis County. There have been a total of 2,706 cases in the Lakeway area (zip codes 78734, 78738 and 78669) since the start of the pandemic (up 11 cases from the same time last week). There are currently 297 active cases at this time in Travis County (down from 338 last week) and 82 individuals hospitalized in the region (down from 94 last week). NEW: City Job Openings

Come join the City of Lakeway (City) team! We are currently seeking a full time police officer, full time senior planner, part time facility attendant and a few more part time summer lifeguards as our Swim Center is now officially open to the public for the Summer season. NEW: Parade Volunteers Needed

The 4th of July Committee is looking for around 20 adult volunteers to assist in directing participants at the parade during the morning of Saturday, July 3. The City of Lakeway Parks & Recreation team is also looking for between 25 and 50 individual golf cart owners to decorate their carts and be willing to transport up to two state flags so that all 50 states are represented in the special event.
