"What's going to happen when I'm not around?" Financial Planning Workshop Series

Guest Speakers: Michelle Wolf, Dr. Yechiel Shalom Goldberg, and  Leslie Barnett

This series allows families to create pathways to ensure children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities have the safeguards for financial stability and well being, especially as parents get older, become disabled themselves, and pass away. The clock is ticking, and you need to plan ahead. Don't put this off, even if you are a parent of a young child(ren) with autism or any other developmental disability. Remember, hope is not a plan! Michelle K. Wolf is a parent disability advocate, non-profit innovator and social services entrepreneur. She is the Founding Executive Director of the Jewish Los Angeles Special Trust, the first pooled nonprofit trust based in LA County for persons with a range of disabilities. Pooled trusts are an affordable and easy way for people with disabilities to have access to private funds without jeopardizing their government benefits. As a parent of a young adult son with cerebral palsy, she writes on topics related to Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities for the LA Jewish Journal. She is also part of the Self-Determination Advisory Committee for the Lanterman Regional Center. She is a graduate of the double master’s program in Jewish Communal Service (Hebrew Union College) and Public Administration (USC) and has an honorary doctorate degree from Hebrew Union College-Los Angeles for her lifetime of work helping vulnerable populations. Yechiel Shalom Goldberg, Ph.D. is a financial planner with Fraser Financial Group. After 25 years studying and teaching Jewish thought and Kabbalah and helping students envision and achieve their academic goals, Yechiel left the university, to pursue a second career helping families envision and achieve their financial goals. Yechiel is particularly passionate about helping families with children or adults with special needs create and implement financial plans that address the special financial needs that accompany caring for a loved one with special needs. Leslie Barnett, Esq. has a Masters in Social Work and was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, spending 15 years working as a geriatric social worker. Elder Law was a natural path after she graduated from law school twenty years ago. Be it estate planning, guardian or conservatorship proceedings or special needs trusts, she uses her legal and social work skills to see that she does the best for her clients. Elder law is making the pieces of the puzzle fit together for a plan that works for the client.  Virtual Workshop Series Information Session One Co-Presenter Dr. Yechiel Goldberg, Financial Planner Chartered Special Needs Consultant Wednesday, April 21 at 7:00 PM PST  Governments Benefits and Financial Planning: This session will cover the different government benefits available to adults with disabilities including Social Security Income (SSI), Medi-Cal, In-home Support Service, eligibility, rules and pitfalls to avoid. And will also cover basics of financial planning including life insurance, IRAs/401cs, pensions and CalABLE accounts. Which assets are best to put into a special needs trust and which should be designated for non-disabled siblings or other heirs? What criteria should you use to choose a financial planner?

Session Two Co-Presenter Leslie Barnett, Esq, Elder Law Attorney and MSW Wednesday, April 28 at 7:00 PM PST   Key Legal Issues: Review of key legal estate planning issues for families who have children with special needs. How do you ensure that your wishes will be honored after you are gone? Topics covered will be estate planning, special needs trusts and how to choose a Trustee. With a Trust and Estate Attorney who is an expert in Special Needs Trusts.

Cost There is a $35.00 fee for each family
