The First Sunday in Lent

Nursery care is available for infants and toddlers.

This Sunday we are going to depart from our usual worship: In observance of the season of Lent, we will be using the more penitential Litany of the Word Rite I, rather than our usual Rite II. Older members may recognize the more archaic language of Sunday's litany, and that there will now be the invitation to kneel in many places. (Please adapt this invitation to your own physical needs.)

If you'd like to know more about why we are using Rite I during the season of Lent, join us for Adult Forum at 9:00 a.m.

Rite I and Rite II - Lent

What's with all the thees and thines? Gain a deeper understanding of why we are using Rite I this Lenten season, rather than the more contemporary Rite II.

In the current Adult Form series, we continue our exploration of Holy Eucharist Rites I and II as we lead into a contemplation of Lent.

Striving for Justice: February 25 at St. Nicholas

The date for CVEM’s Striving for Justice presentation at St. Nicholas about the Harris County Community Remembrance Project will be Sunday, February 25 at 4:00 p.m.

For both this session and the March 25 meeting, we will discuss the Equal Justice Initiative's Community Remembrance Project, which is an effort to locally memorialize and educate communities on victims of racial violence. In February, Harris County representatives will discuss their Community Remembrance Project, and in March, Muscogee County will do the same.

First Sunday Brunch

If you are interested in hosting a First Sunday Brunch, remember to sign up on the sheet on the bulletin board. There is a separate sheet in the narthex to RSVP to attend each brunch.

Vestry Meeting

The vestry will meet after the service on Sunday, February 18.

Prayer Requests

Prayers for Dwight New; and for the continuing recovery of Gene Wells and Jewell Wells.

Alice Taylor's ballet dance group from the Academy Dance is performing in state competitions every weekend in February. They are doing well. This weekend they

will be performing in Cartersville.

Aleisha McMurtry has been nominated for Governor's Honor. Her State interview/portfolio review is Saturday, Feb 24th in Statesboro. She is quite the artist.

Keep them in your prayers as they travel and compete.

More Cyber Scams Afoot

The bad guys are at it again: If you receive a text purporting to be from Rev. Bob Farrow or any other member of the Episcopal clergy, please ignore it - or at least confirm the number is real before responding!

No member of the clergy or church leadership at St. Nicholas will ever ask you for money or gift cards - if you truly believe you are being asked for help by a church member, look up their number in the directory and call them directly to confirm.

A Big Thank You

to Margaret Zachry and Sheri Cody, who made donations to the Rector's Discretionary Fund in celebration of their special occasions.

The Rector's Discretionary Fund is one of the ways we at St. Nicholas share the love of Christ in our community, by helping our neighbors with their utility bills.

You can make a celebratory donation using the envelopes in the narthex.

Mardi Gras 2024: The Good Times Rolled!

St. Nicholas' Mardi Gras celebration was a great success, despite the earlier threat of having to do it without running water. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard on the festive decorations, providing music, and cooking the great food! After the celebratory meal, last year's blessed palms were burned to create the ashes for Ash Wednesday.

Ms. Cora Coverson is looking for a sofa. If you or someone you know is looking to get rid of one, please let Erin know.

A message from Erin D. Griffin, Regional Program Manager, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Chattahoochee Valley

I am writing to share some exciting news with you. As of February 19, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chattahoochee Valley is going to be part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta family! Atlanta is the fastest-growing agency in our Big Brothers Big Sisters network, and we look forward to bringing their innovation and resources to the Chattahoochee Valley community.

This change is going to provide more resources and support for our BBBS Chattahoochee Valley team as we look to grow the number of youth we serve.

What will this mean for our partners? You will still work directly with local staff here in Columbus, who are dedicated to the same service area we currently have. In late March, we will be hosting an event to bring our families, volunteers, partners and new leadership together for a meet-and-greet. We hope will be able to join us!

Starting on February 20, you can reach me by calling 404-601-7000. Our email addresses will stay the same: egriffin@bbbschattvalley.org for me and clyons@bbbschattvalley.org for Courtney.

Although we will miss our friends at The Family Center, we are excited to be moving forward with this new chapter for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chattahoochee Valley. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
