Ahhh, November at The Franklin Food Bank - there's nothing quite like it. Our focus this month is and will always be on making sure families are able to gather together and share a holiday meal.

We spend a lot of time and thought on the gathering of turkeys for local families because traditions are meaningful and should never be skipped due to financial hardship. Not if we can help it!

In addition to providing turkeys (or chickens! Fun fact! Did you know that a lot of people actually prefer chicken on Thanksgiving?) for the families we serve, we also provide a box of trimmings to go along! This year, we were able to gather hundreds of holiday boxes due to our incredibly generous neighbors.

Families will be able to pick up their holiday boxes and birds starting this week and up until the day before Thanksgiving!

We take meals very seriously at the food bank - just bring a box of sandwiches to the staff and see what happens. The point is, we know that in order to provide a Thanksgiving meal to local families, giving them a frozen turkey the day before won't do. That's why we begin a safe, slow thawing process up to one week before Thanksgiving so that by Wednesday evening, all the birds given out in the last week will be oven ready for Thursday morning!

This time of year reminds everyone of our shared humanity. Our dedication to family and to traditions. Our collective desire to help out and show kindness. At the food bank, there is no greater time. As busy as we may get during the days ahead, there is nothing more gratifying than helping our neighbors. We want to thank you all for making it possible. Wish us luck!
