PRAYERS FOR SPECIAL DAYS IN JANUARY

JANUARY 25

The Conversion of St. Paul

O Christ, the Son of God,

you graciously chose Saint Paul

to be your apostle,

and enabled him to sow the good seed

of your Word throughout the world.

From his preaching there has sprung up

an abundant harvest for you.

Grant that his teachings may sink deep into our hearts

and bring forth fruit to your glory;

with the Father and the Holy Spirit,

you live and reign,

one God, now and forever.

Amen.

ST. THOMAS AQUINAS

PRIEST AND DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH

Prayer for a Good Life

Grant O merciful God, that I may ardently desire,

carefully examine, truly know and perfectly fulfil those things

that are pleasing to You and to the praise and glory of Your holy name.

Direct my life, O my God, and grant that I might know

what you would have me to do and for me to fulfil

it as is necessary and profitable to my soul.

Grant to me, O Lord my God, that I may not be found wanting

in prosperity or in adversity and that I may not be

lifted up by one nor cast down by the other.

May I find joy in nothing but what leads to You

and sorrow in nothing but what leads away from You.

May I seek to please no one or fear

to displease anyone, save only You.

Grant to me, O Lord God,

– a vigilant heart that no subtle speculation may ever lead me from You;

– a noble heart that no unworthy affection may draw me from You;

– an upright heart that no evil purpose may turn me from you.

Give me a steadfast heart that no tribulation

may shatter and a free heart that no violent

affection may claim as its own.

And finally, grant me O Lord my God,

a mind to know you, diligence to seek you, wisdom to find you.

Give me a way of life pleasing to You;

perseverance to trust and await You

in confidence that I shall embrace You at the last.

Amen.

HUMOR HIGHLIGHT

A DEBATE!

A scientist and a religious man were debating the evolution theory.

The religious man was trying to convince the scientist

that facts are more clearer than the scientists claim,

and that if evolution was real no one would debate it to start with.

The religious man then took the scientist

to a roof of a high building and asked him:

Religious (R): You do agree with me that facts are facts regardless of our beliefs.

Scientist (S): Exactly! That is what I am trying to say!

R: So what will happen to me if I jumped off this roof to the ground?

S (getting really annoyed at this point): You know what, it depends on your beliefs of the gravity theory.

R (shockingly, as he didn't expect this answer): So what if I believe in it?

S: You will die.

R: And what if I am not a believer and I jumped?

S: You will become one.

GOSPEL READING REFLECTION

For January 22, 2023

THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Year A -     Mt 4:12-23

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Redemption through Christ, the Apostles,

and our Bishop

"He went around all of Galilee,

teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom,

and curing every disease and illness among the people."

  • The light that dawned on Galilee that Isaiah foresaw is Jesus Christ, the kingdom of God in person.

  • The “light” he brought was his gospel or glad teachings and his miracles that healed people’s worst oppressions, “every disease and illness.”

  • To incorporate people into this new kingdom, he appointed apostles, beginning with Peter, Andrew, James, and John.

  • This light which overthrows every darkness, especially death, began to shine in Jesus’ home region, but it extends to the entire world and to every age, past, present, and future.

ANSWER TO QUIZ

In the 8th century, a monk prepared

to pray the Mass.

His heart was heavy as he ascended to the altar, recited the prayers,

and went through the motions.

Was Jesus truly present in the Blessed Sacrament

that he was celebrating?

Did His words “My flesh is meat indeed:

and my blood is drink indeed” (John 6:56) really mean

that the bread and wine became

His actual Body and Blood?

God knew the monk’s thoughts

before they even formed in his mind.

A divine answer was immediate.

The monk had hardly spoken the

last words of consecration before

the white Host transformed into soft flesh

and the ruby wine transformed into bright blood

before his very eyes.

For 1,300 years, the flesh and blood

have remained intact in the Lanciano cathedral.

A scientific analysis performed in 1971

revealed that the flesh was cardial tissue

and the blood fresh as from a living person.

BOOK

RECOMMENDATION

We need to be armed for battle!

At all times, and especially during these crazy times in this vale of tears,

we need to lay our foundation in Christ Jesus.

Spiritual reading helps us build and strengthen that foundation.

This week's recommendation is:

THE FIRST MILLENNIAL SAINT

by Nicole Gori

Born May 3, 1991, Carlo Acutis, fully embraced the gift of life.

Known as a computer whiz, he also liked to play soccer, video games, and the saxophone. He enjoyed watching his favorite police dramas and making short films starring his cats and dogs. He had many friends and enjoyed spending time with them.

A little “different” at school, in the pizzerias, and on the soccer field,

what set Carlos apart was his constant pursuit of holiness.

In addition to his fun hobbies, he spent time teaching catechism classes and serving in soup kitchens.

Carlo loved to attend daily Mass and frequent Eucharistic adoration.

The Word of God and the Eucharist were the center of his life.

His unwavering devotion to the Eucharist inspired him to create a website where he could tell the stories of Eucharistic miracles.

He wanted to deepen his own knowledge of these phenomena,

to strengthen his devotion to Jesus,

and to invite others to grow in love for the Eucharist.

The website caught the attention of people across the globe,

introducing countless people to Eucharistic miracles.

In 2006, Carlo died from a sudden and violent illness at the age of fifteen. Within a decade, his story spread across Italy and the world!

After Pope Francis declared him venerable in 2018,

his beatification was celebrated in Assisi on October 10, 2020.

The next step is canonization, which would make him

the first millennial saint.

CARLOS'S WEBSITE OF EUCHARISTIC MIRACLES

We pray you will be excited to embark on purposeful

spiritual reading as a way to build a more prayer-filled,

Christ centered life.
