Morning Prayer: Rite II
I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the Lord."
Psalm 122:1
The Invitatory
Lord, open our lips. And our mouths shall proclaim your praise. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
Jubilate Psalm 100
Be joyful in the Lord, all you lands;
serve the Lord with gladness
and come before his presence with a song.
Know this: The Lord himself is God;
he himself has made us, and we are his;
we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and call upon his Name.
For the Lord is good;
his mercy is everlasting;
and his faithfulness endures from age to age.
The Lessons
Exodus 19:3-8
Moses went up to God; the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, "Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the Israelites: You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. Now therefore, if you obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession out of all the peoples. Indeed, the whole earth is mine, but you shall be for me a priestly kingdom and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the Israelites."
So Moses came, summoned the elders of the people, and set before them all these words that the Lord had commanded him. The people all answered as one: "Everything that the Lord has spoken we will do." Moses reported the words of the people to the Lord.
The Song of the Redeemed Magna et mirabilia
Revelation 15:3-4
O ruler of the universe, Lord God,
great deeds are they that you have done, *
surpassing human understanding.
Your ways are ways of righteousness and truth, *
O King of all the ages.
Who can fail to do you homage, Lord,
and sing the praises of your Name? *
for you only are the Holy One.
All nations will draw near and fall down before you, *
because your just and holy works have been revealed.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
Matthew 16:24-27
Jesus told his disciples, "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life?
"For the Son of Man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay everyone for what has been done."
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth;
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
A Litany for the Mission of the Church
The Book of Occasional Services 2018
Holy God, in whom all things in heaven and earth have their being.
Have mercy on us.
Jesus the Christ, through whom the world is reconciled to the Father.
Have mercy on us.
Holy Spirit, whose glory fills the world and searches the depths of God.
Have mercy on us.
Blessed Trinity, source of both unity and diversity.
Have mercy on us.
From blind hearts and petty spirits, that refuse to see the need of all humankind for your love.
Have mercy on us.
From pride, self sufficiency and the unwillingness to admit our own need of your compassion.
Savior, deliver us.
From discouragement in the face of pain and disappointment, and from lack of persistence and thoroughness.
Savior, deliver us.
From ignorance, apathy, and complacency that keep us from spreading the Gospel.
Savior, deliver us.
O God, we pray for the gifts of ministry; Inspire our minds with a vision of your kingdom in this time and place.
Hear us, O Christ.
Touch our eyes, that we may see your glory in all creation.
Hear us, O Christ.
Touch our ears, that we may hear from every mouth the hunger for hope and stories of refreshment.
Hear us, O Christ.
Touch our lips, that we may tell in every tongue and dialect the wonderful works of God.
Hear us, O Christ.
Touch our hearts, that we may discern the mission to which you call us.
Hear us, O Christ.
Touch our feet, that we may take your Good News into our neighborhoods, communities, and all parts of the world.
Hear us, O Christ.
Touch our hands, that we each accomplish the work you give us to do.
Hear us, O Christ.
Strengthen and encourage all who minister in lonely, dangerous and unresponsive places.
Hear us, O Christ.
Open our hearts and hands to support our mission everywhere we go. We pray especially for the sick of our parish: Pat, Ham, Eric, John Michael, Lee, Lisa, Amy, William, Debbink and Langenkemp families, DeLeon, Sels, and Graham families, Austin, Diane, Tony, Pat, Nancy, Jeff, Zachary, Miriam, Jane, Michael, Bucky, Jesse, Peter, Alan, Michelle, David, Cindy, Brach, Audrey, Nancy, Tefft, Vicki, Mary Anne, Elizabeth, Shirley, Shannon, Matt, and Suzanne, as well as, for these dearly beloved departed souls: Walter Falleni, Jane Van Note, Louise Golda, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Hear us, O Christ.
O God the Creator and ruler of all things, your reign grows like a mustard seed into abundant life: Bless those who plant and tend new life in your Church, that it may be a place of welcome, a refuge of healing, a school for souls, and a life-giving spring; all of which we ask through Jesus Christ, our strength and our salvation. Amen.
The Collects
Collect of the Day: Remembrance of the 21st Anniversary of 9/11
O Almighty God, who brings good out of evil and turns even the wrath of your children towards your promised peace: Hear our prayers this day as we remember those of many nations and differing faiths whose lives were cut short by the fierce flames of anger and hatred. Hasten the time when the menace of war shall be removed. Cleanse both us and those perceived to be our enemies of all hatred and distrust. Pour out the spirit of peace on all the rulers of our world that we may be brought through strife to the lasting peace of the kingdom of your Son; Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
A Collect for Mission
Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen.
The Offertory
Let us with gladness present the offerings and oblations of our life and labor to the Lord. Amen.
The General Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.
Concluding Prayer
Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine; Glory to him from generation to generation in the Church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever. Amen.
Ephesians 3: 20, 21
Alleluia. Alleluia.
Let us go forth rejoicing in the power of the Spirit.
Alleluia. Alleluia.
