Celebrating Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year will be celebrated on Sunday, January 22 this year. This is a holiday observed by many Asian cultures as a way to celebrate the beginning of a new year, based on the Lunar calendar as opposed to the Gregorian calendar. Although each culture celebrates a little differently, each year is assigned to a different animal from the Chinese Zodiac – 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit!

University Field Trips

American River College is hosting 9 field trips to multiple four-year Universities in the spring 2023 semester. These field trips will include free transportation, lunch, a campus tour, and an educational presentation/panel. These field trips are available to any ARC registered student; however, spots are limited so please apply for this opportunity early!

Important Information

Here are some helpful reminders for you as we enter Spring semester:

  • Emergency Resources: Download the Rave Guardian App to have safety resources and information at your fingertips, including what to do in case of an emergency.
  • Parking: Los Rios will not be issuing parking permits for students for the Spring 2023 semester. This means you will not be ticketed for a lack of a permit during the semester, as long as you are parked in a student parking spot. Employees will be issued parking permits and an employee permit is required to park in any staff parking spaces. Please be sure to follow all parking rules such as only parking in handicapped spots if you have the appropriately issued placard and no parking in fire or loading zones, as violations of these could result in a ticket.
  • Smoking: ARC is a tobacco-free, smoke-free, and vape-free campus.
  • Free Speech: Please be aware that outside groups occasionally visit campus exercising their constitutionally protected right to free speech. These groups might display images or engage in speech that is offensive to some. Learn more about free speech on campus.

Study Abroad in Paris This Summer

Los Rios students will have the unique opportunity this summer to study in and become familiar with one of the great cities of the world – Paris, France. For an immersive five weeks, from June 21 through July 28, 2023, students will study the history of France from the Roman Empire to the present. Following the

classroom meeting each day, students will continue their learning by visiting the sites where this history happened. Participation in such a program will

likely change how you see the world and your place in it, for as Victor Hugo

wrote in Les Misérables, “to study in Paris is to be born in Paris.” The deadline to apply is Tuesday, March 28. For questions, contact FLC History Professor Richard Mowrer at mowrerr@flc.losrios.edu.
