Music In Our Schools
The month of March has been designated as “Music In Our Schools Month®” by the National Association of Music Education (NAfME) for over 30 years. It is during this time of year that music education becomes a focus of schools across the country. Advocacy efforts unfold in support of the accessibility of music education to all children and in acknowledgement of music’s importance within curricular offerings. The Boulder Chorale’s core values of musical excellence, education, community, collaboration, solidarity, and vitality, are key values in support of music and education in our greater community schools. In fact, the Boulder Children’s Chorale serves children grades K-9 across 3 school districts, 29 public schools, 2 private schools, and many area homeschool programs. It is in direct connection to the incredible music education programs in our region that we can offer such high quality, choral education within our own programming and performances. We fully support MIOSM® and encourage our membership and patrons to support music education in our community!
“Music enhances the education of our children by helping them to make connections and broadening the depth with which they think and feel. If we are to hope for a society of culturally literate people, music must be a vital part of our children’s education.” – Yo-Yo Ma

Meet the Singer
Claire Gold (7th grade) is a longtime member of Boulder Children's Chorale, growing up through the ensembles (see pictures below). She is now a valued member of our top ensemble, Bel Canto. From her director, Nathan Wubbena: “Claire is a wonderful student - she is a hard worker who is dedicated to excellence, a great team member, very receptive to feedback and just a lovely person to be around. She’ll even occasionally catch mistakes I make when I send out assignments and will let me know so others won’t be confused. I consider myself lucky to have had the chance to work with her over the past few years, through both Volante and Bel Canto!” Thanks for being a part of the Chorale family, Claire!

How long have you been with Boulder Children’s Chorale?
I have been with the Boulder Children's Chorale for seven years now.
What do you love about being a part of the Chorale?
I love that everyone is in the choir because they enjoy singing, and therefore we all are able to have a community that binds us in at least one way. I have found that I have really enjoyed this year in Bel Canto especially, because I have gotten to know everyone well in the choir.

What is a favorite memory?
Outside of choir, my favorite memory is in Germany - a hike that we did in the alps, where we saw at least ten marmots. In choir, my favorite memory is one time in Volante when we kept on messing up the same part, and bursting into giggles each time.
What’s your favorite song that you’ve sung and why?
When I was in Piccolini or Prima Voce, we sang "Be Kind to Your Parents," and I remember really enjoying singing this because I thought that I was extremely funny and intelligent singing these words about parents being in a "difficult stage of life," and this was also the first song in choir that I could play the accompaniment to on the piano, so this may have also been the first song that I practiced more than once outside of choir each week.
What do you love doing when you’re not singing with the Chorale?
I enjoy backpacking with my family.
What are your plans for the future?
I really want to become an environmental lawyer.
