RESPECT Recognizes Differences During Autism Acceptance Month

During Autism Acceptance Month, we celebrate and promote acceptance for the condition that is now the fastest growing developmental disorder in the United States, which occurs in one in every 36 children. Autism, a complex developmental condition affecting the individual’s ability to interact, communicate, and progress, has not one but many subtypes. Every individual on the autism spectrum brings their own unique strengths, talents, and perspectives to the world, and deserves to feel understood, accepted, and valued. Autism Acceptance Month emphasizes the need for public awareness to recognize the importance of supporting, understanding, accepting, including, and empowering people on the autism spectrum in our community.

In celebration of Autism Awareness Month, RESPECT of Florida honors the contribution of Floridians on the autism spectrum in our state. We join other organizations in recognizing the needs of people on the autism spectrum to lead full and successful lives. RESPECT of Florida understands the need to foster awareness and acceptance to ignite change and improved opportunities for people with autism. So join us as we raise awareness to promote autism acceptance, celebrate neurodiversity and individual differences, and continue to advance inclusivity and connectedness throughout the community.

RESPECT Celebrates National Assistive Technology Awareness Day

As RESPECT celebrates National Assistive Technology (AT) Awareness Day, we recognize the importance of AT devices and services in making community living and employment a reality for millions across the country. Assistive technology (AT) is any item, device, or piece of equipment used to maintain or improve the independence and function of people with disabilities. AT solutions enable people of all ages with short-term or long-term disabilities to fully engage in all aspects of life. These solutions can take many forms, from augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices that empower people to interact and socialize with others to home modifications that empower people to continue living among family and friends in their own neighborhoods. AT can help people with disabilities overcome barriers to employment and employers create more accessible workplaces that attract the most qualified job seekers - regardless of disability. RESPECT supports the expansion of AT to empower individuals with disabilities to be able to meet their needs and goals to be active participants in our communities and employment opportunities.

Opportunities to Check Out RESPECT at Trade Shows

RESPECT attends many trade shows throughout the year across the State of Florida. Trade shows and reverse trade shows provide a unique opportunity to market our commodities and services to our customers from the different agencies and municipalities.

On May 20, RESPECT Commodities Manager Rebekah Small and Director of Operations Michael Yon will attend the FAPPO Trade Show in Orlando. We look forward to the opportunity to speak with trade show attendees about the RESPECT mission of employing individuals who are blind or have other disabilities and the various types of commodities and services the program offers. RESPECT is excited about this great opportunity to build new relationships, as well as meet existing customers in person.

This summer, RESPECT will also attend the 2024 Florida Association of Counties and the Florida League of Cities conferences. The RESPECT booth will be stocked with information about us along with treats. Come visit us and learn about the commodities and services RESPECT has to offer.
