Love Wins

by Rob Bell

Adult Christian Education

continues this weekend!

Available in several formats (including used) from Amazon, at local bookstores or the library.

Bell challenges Christian readers to examine their views on heaven, hell, damnation, traditions, and God’s love. Key points will be discussed from the chapter read before each session. This weekend's reading is Chapter 4 , “Does God get what God wants?".

A good gathering of Emmanuel members listened to Police Chief Thorpe give a presentation in Fellowship Hall this week.

The chief was the first speaker in a series of community leaders brought to Emmanuel by the Fellowship Committee.

Barb's Medical Minute

The overgrowth of the prostate tissue is BPH, which is a condition of aging that can tarnish men’s golden years, and, if we’re honest, a woman’s too! By age 60, about 60% of men will have BPH. After age 70, it is 80-90%! Both BPH and Prostate cancer cause the same symptoms, with prostate cancer having additional ones like blood in the urine, bone pain, etc.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men other than skin cancer, and only lung cancer is more deadly. So, what do men do about it? They take supplements to reduce the risk or relieve the symptoms. So, which are safe, which are approved, and do any help? First, no supplement has been approved or recommended by any expert source, but reliable sources like Harvard University, Cleveland Clinic, and the National Institute of Health suggest some supplements that may have benefits and others to avoid. Promising supplements are Saw Palmetto, African plum tree, Stinging nettle, and Beta-sitosterol. Risky supplements are Lycopene, Zinc, Selenium, and Vit. E. Look up each for details.

Talk to your physician about which treatment is best for you, and supplements may have a place in your care plan. Do your research, speak with your doctor, and do what is best for you. Keep enjoying ALL that life has to offer!

Please keep the following people in your prayers:

  • Irma Baity
  • Michala Chipurnoi & family
  • Bill Clark
  • Paulette Gates
  • Brian Senn
  • Jerome Stetzl

Prayers are lifted for the family and friends of Jean McMillan, Bernice Reinhart's daughter, who passed away Tuesday, February 20th. Service plans pending.
