PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Maine East Families:

Please have a safe, restful spring break. We all need to rest and reenergize in the coming few days. This is a great time for students to reflect on how their school year has been going and on what they want to keep doing, start doing, or stop doing to achieve their goals and end the year strong.

We look forward to seeing students back in the building on Monday, March 28 - and we look forward to seeing our Maine East families “in the house” for athletic events, fine arts events, and awards programs between now and late May.

Be well!

Dr. Mike Pressler, Principal
STUDENT ADVISORY
This Week:
Students had an extended period to continue discussions on social media usage based on the documentary “LIKE”. Students had the opportunity to examine their social media and the impact it has on their everyday lives.

Next Week:
Have a safe and relaxing Spring Break!

MATH TEAM
On March 10th, Maine East’s Math Team traveled to Glenbrook South High School to compete in the Conference Meet for the North Suburban Math League.
The Freshman Team finished the season in 3rd place in its division and was awarded a plaque.
The Junior Team and the Math Team as a whole also finished the season in 3rd place and were awarded plaques.

Special congratulations go out to freshman Alex Mitev, who had a perfect paper, and was awarded a gold ribbon. This was Alex’s 3rd perfect paper of the year!

Congratulations on a great season, Mathletes!
MAINE HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Maine Historical Society members invited Ms. Trisha Chokshi to speak at a student gathering on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. Her visit could not have been more timely because March is celebrated as Women’s History month and specifically, on March 8, we marked the International Women’s Day.
Around 60 students and faculty members gathered in room 330 for Ms. Chokshi’s presentation. Trisha Chokshi is a partner at Chokshi Filippone Law, LLC, a law firm that she leads along with her husband, Agostino Filippone.

Both husband and wife graduated from Maine East High School in 2003. Ms. Chokshi concentrates her practice in the areas of immigration law, residential real estate, and estate planning.
Ms. Chokshi’s presentation was very student-centered. Members of Maine Historical Society provided topics of interest to Ms. Chokshi and she went out of her way to address every topic that was requested. Many student were interested to find out how Ms. Chokshi decided to go into law.
Furthermore, they wanted to know what helped her prepare in high school for her years in law school. A number of students stayed after the presentation to ask further questions, and Ms. Chokshi graciously stayed, answered questions and offered internship opportunities to students.
BUILDING WITH A PURPOSE
Maine East's Math 2 in Construction program shipped their first of 2 houses last week for the 2021-22 school year. This house is headed to Normal, IL through our partnership with Habitat for Humanity of McLean County. Implementing the knowledge and skills for this contextualized math course, these students built the framework for this house. The students helped load the wall sections onto a tow truck to begin delivery. Maine East would like to thank Tony Lundin of the local Lin-Mar towing for his extreme generosity in donating all of the transportation needs for these projects!
MAINE EAST FASHION DESIGNERS WORK ON PROJECT FOR VERY SPECIAL CLIENTELE
This year's students in fashion classes were assigned a preschool client from Mrs. Meyer's program for a very special project. Students were challenged to interview their client and create a design that met the client's needs and preferences.  For example, one student wanted a monster truck blue shirt while another wanted anything with unicorns on it :) Students then applied design and construction skills by sketching their design, creating a mood board, and finally sewing the design. The final product was very cute!
