Parsha Talk

If Jews are the chosen people, and kohanim are the chosen servants within the chosen people, what kind of expectations should we have about the actions and choices of kohanim? Find out in this week's Parsha Talkο»Ώ.
Haiku & Haftorah
Every week a student from each one of Mrs. Gelman's 7th–12th grade classes writes an original haiku about the parsha and a Dvar Torah about the Haftorah.

This week's H & H covering Parshat Emor features Talia Goldfine (8), Rafi Miller (8), Ezra Miller (11), and Nitzan Chen (10). Click here for some parsha inspiration you can share at your Shabbat table.

From the Desk of the STEAM Lab

This week in STEAM we had a blast learning about dinosaurs! Discovering our favorites, we learned so many fascinating things about them. We made balancing dinos, dug for fossils, and went on a dinosaur hunt!
High School Social Studies

Students in Mr. Cell's AP US History (9–10) and AP US Government (11–12) classes have completed their AP tests! The classes then examined elements of the historic Supreme Court leak of the Dobbs case. They analyzed the social, political, and legal history leading up to Roe and Casey, and the present day. In addition to this, the on-level Econ (11–12) class is preparing to write on the topic of meritocracy while the on-level U.S history (9–10) class is studying the philosophy, strategy, and tactics of MLK and the 1960s civil rights movement.
Mother's Day

Students in Mrs. Rosenzweig's middle school Home Economics explo and math classes designed and 3D-printed bird houses and designed and embroidered bathrobes to present their mothers on Mother's Day!
Opposites

This week students in Morah Sandy's ECE3 class learned about Parshat Emor and making a Kiddush Hashem (acting right and making Hashem happy) in public. They contrasted this with a chillul Hashem (acting poorly). This led to learning about opposites such as good and bad, big and small, and soft and hard.
Jewish History

Rabbi Kellerman's 6th grade Mechina class is exploring their family histories by making family trees and charting their migrations over the last hundred years. Students are learning about themselves and their friends, and gaining a better understanding of their place in Jewish history.
Growing Mind and Body

Students in Ms. Morrison's 1st grade PE class strengthened their minds and bodies by learning different yoga poses. Yoga helps build concentration, control, and balance. In the collage above, students are demonstrating the star pose, garland pose, rainbow pose, tree pose, and the flower pose.
Guess Whooo Loves You!

Students in Morah Tsippi's ECE2 class are making surprise owls for Father's Day. Even though the special day is celebrated after school is over, the class wanted to show all the daddies and abbas how much they care about them too!
Horim Lomdim

We are midway through our parent engagement series, Horim Lomdim, where our wonderful teachers teach our parents classes that showcase their passions/talents. Our Ceramics Pottery group led by our Art Teacher Ziyona Rantz created beautiful multi-purpose Shabbat platters, while the Exploring Middot Through Art group, led by Judaic Studies Principal Rivkie Gottlieb, explored the works of artist David Moss and delved deep into the meaning behind various middot such as gratitude, faith, awe, kindness, compassion, and more. Those who participated in the mezuzah glass fusing class, led by our Upper School Guidance Counselor Michelle Renfrow, scored, cut, and designed their own glass mezuzot. Thank you to our wonderful faculty and staff for volunteering their time and showing us their talents and passions, and thank you to all our parents who signed up! We had such a great time getting to know you better.
Middle School Science

This week 6th grade students in Mr. Polanski's middle school science class learned about land biomes. The 7th grade students learned about environmental impacts on oceans, while 8th grade students learned about acids and bases.
Bronfman Fellowship Recipient

Congratulations to Noah Frydberg (11th grade) who was selected as a recipient of The Bronfman Fellowship. The highly selective fellowship educates and inspires intellectually curious young Jews from diverse backgrounds to become active participants in Jewish culture throughout their lives, and to contribute their talents and vision to the Jewish community and the world at large. The 26 selected fellows will participate in a transformative, intense, and immersive experience beginning with a summer in Israel. Click here to read more about the program and the selected recipients.
Upper School Judaic Studies

We are excited to announce that for the 2022–2023 school year Rabbi Ari Kellerman has accepted the role of Upper School Judaic Studies Coordinator. Rabbi Kellerman will work with the teachers and students to support and guide us in all areas of Judaic Studies academics. Alongside Rabbi Kellerman, Rabbi Johnny Ouzzan will be joining our Upper School Student Life Team, bringing his years of experience in Jewish communal work and religious outreach to inspire and nurture our students. We will begin a robust and comprehensive national search in the fall for an Upper School Judaic Studies Principal to join our administrative team in the summer of 2023.
Interactive Israel

Students in Morah Aviva's ECE4A class have completed their unit on Israel and are very excited to show off their beautiful multi-textured maps and presentations later this afternoon to their parents.
