The Pastor’s Pen
Little children, I am with you only a little longer. You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, “Where I am going, you cannot come.” I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:33-35
This week’s text, in many of your Bibles, is entitled the New Commandment. It comes during the last supper after Jesus had washed the disciples’ feet, and Judas had left to betray Jesus to the Roman Authorities. Even though this commandment is not new and was given to Moses in Leviticus 19:18, Jesus is giving the disciples a new way to interpret and practices love. So, how are we Christians to love on another? Yes, there is no doubt that many of us know the love chapter from 1 Corinthians 13. For love is not competitive or mean, nor an object of pride, rudeness, resentfulness and does not insist it own ways, but how are we Christian supposed to love one another according to Jesus, especially in today’s chaotic world? Join us on Mother’s Day as we discover how Jesus wants us to love and what we are supposed to be doing in the name of love!
