Weekly Update
May 12, 2021
From the President
Dear BBHS families,

On behalf of the BBHS Board of Directors, and in collaboration with the BBHS Administration, we are asking for your help as we end the school year and prepare for the year ahead. The Board of Directors is a governing body with fiduciary responsibilities developing policy, creating long-range goals for the school, proposing means to finance the school (including tuition and fundraising) and evaluating the school's progress and performance in pursuit of its mission.

We are conducting our annual survey of school parents and guardians to evaluate the past year and inform priorities for next year. Please take a few minutes of your time to provide your thoughts. The survey will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 21. Your input will be used by the Board and Administration during the annual planning process and the results will be shared with key constituents in the fall.

Note: if have issues accessing the survey link, please contact bbhsinfo@bishopblanchet.org for assistance.

Sincerely,
From the Academic Office
PROGRESS REPORTS
Final progress reports of the second semester will be posted to Skyward (under the Portfolio tab) by 2 p.m. on Friday, May 14.

BISHOP BLANCHET TO HOST VACCINATION SITE
In partnership with the Seattle Fire Department, Bishop Blanchet High School is hosting a vaccination site for anyone 12 and older. There is no required pre-registration and no appointment needed. Students under 18 will need written consent from a parent or guardian and must present the signed consent form prior to receiving the vaccine. After being vaccinated, students should expect to spend 15-30 minutes on site, to ask questions and be observed for any reaction following their vaccination.
Bishop Blanchet strongly recommends that all students eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine are fully vaccinated prior to the start of the 2021-2022 school year. This will help keep our community safe and ensure your student has an uninterrupted academic and extracurricular experience. Fully vaccinated BBHS students can:
  • Refrain from quarantine and testing following a known exposure if asymptomatic.
  • Resume domestic travel and refrain from testing before or after travel or self-quarantine after travel.
  • Refrain from testing before leaving the United States for international travel (unless required by the destination) and refrain from self-quarantine after arriving back in the United States.

GUIDANCE FOR FULLY VACCINATED STUDENTS
Bishop Blanchet has adopted CDC guidelines for students who have been fully vaccinated. As outlined by the CDC, people are considered fully vaccinated for COVID-19 ≥2 weeks after they have received the second dose in a 2-dose series (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), or ≥2 weeks after they have received a single-dose vaccine. A copy of a student’s COVID-19 vaccination card must be submitted via email to the Dean's Office. Fully vaccinated students can:
  • Refrain from quarantine and testing following a known exposure if asymptomatic.
  • Resume domestic travel and refrain from testing before or after travel, or self-quarantine after travel.
  • Refrain from testing before leaving the United States for international travel (unless required by the destination) and refrain from self-quarantine after arriving back in the United States.

FAMILIES AWAITING COVID TEST RESULTS
As a reminder, if any household member is awaiting COVID-19 test results, please refrain from sending your student for in-person learning or in-person activities until the results of that test are known.

OUT OF STATE TRAVEL
Bishop Blanchet has adopted CDC guidelines for all out of state travel. Those returning from out of state have two quarantine options:
  1. Forgo a COVID-19 test and quarantine for 10 days upon returning from out of state travel. After day 10, eligible to return to in-person learning and in-person activities.
  2. Get tested 5 days after out of state travel and stay home/self quarantine for the full 7 days, even with a negative test.
  • Those who decide to return after 7 days are required to submit their negative COVID-19 test result to the Dean’s Office prior to returning to in-person learning and in-person activities.

Families traveling out of state are required to complete this form. School personnel will communicate a return date for in-person learning and in-person activities. We feel it is important to reiterate that public health guidance is to avoid non-essential travel. This protocol has been developed to address the occurrence of essential travel. If you have any questions, please contact the Dean’s Office

REQUIRED REPORTING OF POSITIVE CASE OF COVID-19
If a student or member of their household tests positive for COVID-19, families must notify the Dean’s Office by contacting Chris Bilanko, Dean of Students, and follow the BBHS COVID-19 Community Protocols prior to returning to campus or participating in any school-sponsored activity. This information will remain confidential and allow the school to initiate its communication protocols. Any student who does not follow BBHS COVID-19 Community Protocols will face disciplinary consequences and may be prohibited from participating in on-campus learning and extracurricular activities. In the event of a positive case in our student body, faculty or staff, Bishop Blanchet will communicate to the entire community and work directly with families if their student is impacted.

LAST BLAST
The long-standing post-graduation tradition, Last Blast, is happening! It will be a bit different than in year's past, but still lots of fun for our graduates. Senior parents, please watch for an email next week with details and registration information.

CALLING ALL UNDERCLASSMEN PARENT VOLUNTEERS
As part of our Last Blast tradition, parents of our BBHS underclassmen traditionally provide the volunteer support, so senior parents can also "graduate" from those duties!

Please consider helping out. This year, the Last Blast Party is a bit abbreviated due to limited venues and restrictions on activities, but it will still be an outstanding celebration for our seniors. We need help to make it work! Please visit this Sign Up Genius to help with:
  • senior check-in after graduation, at BBHS
  • chaperoning the event, off-site

DANCE TEAM
The BBHS Dance Team traveled to Capital High School last weekend to participate in their first and only in-person dance competition of the school year. They placed 6th overall in the Hip-Hop Category, scoring 30 points higher than in their virtual competition. The Dancers showed confidence, strength, style, high energy, and ultimately represented what it means to be a Bishop Blanchet Dancer. Way to go Braves!
BBHS HONOR JACKET
BBHS students who earn an Athletic, Academic, Performing Arts or other school Honors now have two options for showing their school pride! In addition to the traditional Letter Jacket, the Honor Jacket is now available. It is a black fleece jacket that comes with the Blanchet "B" on the left chest and "Braves" on the right sleeve, and starts at $80. Click here to order the Letter Jacket, or call National Achiever Services at 425-357-1338.
