HEY
GLOBE
COMMUNITY
This is the best resource for staying in the know.
Dear GLOBE Community,

Frozen 7-Day Meal Boxes will be distributed on Saturday, April 3, 2021 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Administrative Instructional Complex - 1701 Mountain Industrial Blvd., Stone Mountain, GA 30083

Families will receive one box per child and each box will contain breakfast and lunch for 7 days and snacks for 5 days. Families are asked to remain in their vehicles and open their trunks when it is their turn in line.

Continuing Our Efforts Against the Spread of COVID-19

Thank you to all of our parents and staff for your vigilance in keeping GLOBE's COVID policies and procedures and for your support as we work to create the safest on-campus environment as possible. As we mentioned here last week, community transmission is no longer declining and has leveled off. And so it remains incredibly important to stay vigilant: keep wearing those masks over your mouth and nose, wash your hands well, and keep your distance from those who aren't in your usual pod.

It is our goal to reopen for four days of in-person instruction as soon as it is feasible to do so. The two-day Hybrid plan of learning was not intended to be our permanent solution and so our Reopening Committee and leadership team have been discussing a plan to move in that direction. We will make a decision about our path forward on April 13th.

FYI: Georgia has opened COVID-19 vaccination to everyone aged 16 years and older. You can utilize the Georgia Department of Public Health's website to find vaccination locations or schedule an appointment. Widespread vaccination will be key to reducing transmission in our community - if you have questions about the COVID-19 vaccines, you can find answers to common questions here.

Clinic

In these days of Covid-awareness, we ask that you please:
(1) be prepared to pick up your child immediately (within 30 minutes) upon receiving a call that your child is in our isolation room.

(2) call or email the nurses (lreese@theglobeacademy.net / crobinson@theglobeacademy.net) if your child is going to be kept home for illness. Continue to email the front office about absences, as well.

(3) call the school and nurse if your child is diagnosed with covid! We need to have that information as quickly as possible. Also, call if your child has had close contact with someone with covid.

(4) if your child tells you that he is continually pulling up his mask, please take a stitch in the straps or do whatever you can to get a better fit. If that isn’t doable, please purchase a better-fitting mask.

Also, please continue to get medications and paperwork in to us for asthma, food allergies, etc. We will walk out to the front sidewalk to retrieve them from you.

Lower Campus

Progress Reports
Progress reports for the third quarter were sent to parents and guardians via email on Friday, March 19. Please reach out to one of your child’s lead classroom teachers if you did not receive it. Please check your email account’s spam or junk folder first.

School Arrivals and Departures
Please remember that students must enter and exit cars during morning arrival and afternoon pick up via the passenger side.

Carpool Tags
By Monday, March 29th, ALL cars arriving for afternoon pick-up will need to clearly display the official GLOBE carpool number tag. Carpool numbers do not change from year to year. If you are a returning family, you should already have a tag. Tags for new families have already been passed out. But if you have not already received it, please email frontoffice@theglobeacademy.net

**During first, second and third-grade pick-up in the afternoon, please do not attempt to get in line from Sundown Drive. This is not fair to the parents who are waiting in line farther down where Heritage Drive turns into Meadowvale Drive.

LC Walkers
LC students who live within walking distance of the school, please reach out to the front office if you would like to transition to walking to school instead of using carpool. Once we have the number of families that live within walking distance and choose to walk, we will share the details for their daily Health Screening.

LC Lost & Found
Families, the Lost & Found from the 2019-2020 school year (pre-COVID) will be donated over the spring break holiday. If there is an item that has special meaning to you and you believe it was left at the school prior to March 2020, please email lclostandfound.globeacademy@gmail.com. Please provide a detailed description of the item. Unfortunately we can not search for items that do not have your child’s name clearly labeled. We will do our best to locate any items that are labeled and contact you regarding pickup.

Upper Campus

UC AM Carpool
Morning drop off at Upper Campus begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends promptly at 8 a.m. If you are late getting your student to school, please PARK and walk your student to the front door to sign in and complete the health screening. Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian throughout the sign in process.

Parents coming through carpool, please remember the following:
  • All students will undergo a health screening EVERY DAY. Please roll down your window to answer the screening questions and do not allow your student(s) to exit the car until clearance has been granted.
  • Students should have masks on BEFORE exiting the car. Buffs are not permitted.
  • Pull all the way up to wait for health screening and clearance. Do not stop in the middle of the line.

Change for UC dismissal beginning Monday, March 29
In an effort to shorten the afternoon carpool line, Upper Campus began allowing walker pick-up on Monday, March 29. Families living within walking distance of The GLOBE Academy will be able to walk onto campus, come to the double doors facing Briarcliff Road, and pick up their students on foot. Parents picking up their students will be expected to model appropriate mask wearing and physical distancing while on campus, and will assume full responsibility for safely crossing Briarcliff Road at the traffic light. Students will only be released to a parent/guardian or other authorized adult listed on school paperwork. ID will be required.

UC PM Carpool
There are two lanes for exiting the UC carpool line in the afternoon. Pull to the left if you are turning left, and to the right to turn right.

Please be reminded that when Officer Bollinger is in the intersection, he is in charge. Drivers should wait to turn right or left until directed.
