On July 4, 1776, the 13 colonies claimed their independence from England, an event which eventually led to the formation of the United States. Each year on the fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, Americans celebrate this historic event.
Conflict between the colonies and England was already a year old when the colonies convened a Continental Congress in Philadelphia in the summer of 1776. In a June 7 session in the Pennsylvania State House (later Independence Hall), Richard Henry Lee of Virginia presented a resolution with the famous words: "Resolved: That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved."
The Lions Club of Sebastian and the Sebastian Masonic Lodge and the City of Sebastian enthusiastically invites you to participate in the 50th Annual Parade which will be held on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021. The fun-filled day will include an opening ceremony, parade, festival, and fireworks will begin at sunset. This group has provided the City of Sebastian with the best celebration for many, many years!
We have more in the works! Not everybody leaves the Sebastian River Area in August! We look forward to seeing everybody at the Annual Grill Out Night, scheduled for Friday, August 13th, 2021. After last year off, due to COVID-19, Grill Out Night is back! The theme is Polynesian and the fruit is Coconut. If you are not grilling, hopefully you will be chilling, with our businesses!

LIST OF NOMINEES
Pursuant to the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce By-Laws, Article IV, Section 2 (b) and (c), the Chamber’s Nominating Committee submits the following business members as nominees for the slate of new Board of Directors to serve terms from 2021-2022. The timeline of the elections process was approved by the Board of Directors at our May 2021 meeting. Please see the details below.
Members shall choose three of the candidates to serve three year terms on the Board of Directors of the Chamber.
The official ballot will be mailed on June 28, 2021 to all members and will be due back to the Chamber no later than Wednesday, August 11, 2021. The election results will be tabulated and certified by the Nominations Committee after August 11, 2021 and the results announced to allow our new board members to be sworn in by the September Chamber Luncheon on September 14, 2021 @ Captain Hirams.
The determination of the Nominating Committee as to the legality of the petitions shall be final. The nominated candidates’ biographies will appear in the ballot mailing and in the September issue of the Chamber Connection newsletter.

Lantana Beach where our son Zachary, age 2 at the time, was running along the edge of the surf with his legs moving about 100 mph and we noticed that his legs seemed to be moving as fast a the Sandpipers legs when they were avoiding the incoming surf, so his nickname became "Sandpiper". Three years later, when Zach was 5, Lori and I were trying to come up with a name for our new Pest Control business we were trying different names that reflected the Florida coast theme but nothing was clicking. Zachary was also sitting at the table with us, coloring and listening and he suddenly shouted out "how about Sandpiper?" We knew immediately that was it and quickly decided that the bird with its foot prints in the sand would be our logo. We have never killed a Sandpiper in our life, but "For your pests with more than 2 legs" you can call - "Sandpiper Pest Control"!
