CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS CAMPAIGN

Dear Fellow Gregorians,

A warm “hello” from your capital campaign committee, and a big thank you to folks who have already pledged! With your help, and relying on the comfort and support of the Holy Spirit, we will see our church through this time of change.

The Nourish, Grow, and Go plan identified five areas of our physical church that were—and still are—in need of renewal or, in one case, creation: the sanctuary HVAC system, the parish hall floor, the children's playground, the church organ, and a new outdoor labyrinth. Our committee has surveyed the congregation, and your votes tell us that these issues remain important to you, prioritized in the order I have just listed them.

We have not yet come to firm conclusions about each of those items. For example, whether the parish hall floor will be a hard surface with acoustic baffling added to deal with echoing or carpet squares remains to be decided. Another example: exactly how we deal with the sanctuary HVAC could range from repair to replacement to relocation of the units in a new space joining the sanctuary with the parish hall. Similarly, the kind of organ and kind of labyrinth we choose have not been settled.

Much depends on how much money we can raise—and that depends, in turn, on our vision for St. Gregory the Great church going forward. We will continue to pray and think and research and talk about the best ways to use our resources to shape that vision. But most importantly, we will continue to invite your input.

Please join us after the 10:00 service on Feb 11 at the reception for the confirmands and the parishioners being received into the church. Bishop Wright will lead us in prayer and share his vision for our community, and information about the proposed projects will be on display, with members of the capital campaign committee on hand to answer your questions and to take down your ideas.

Finally, we all owe our thanks to a group of dedicated parishioners who have spent many hours researching, meeting, talking (I won’t say arguing!) and planning to realize the vision of the Nourish, Grow, and Go Strategic Plan. Please thank Stacie Court, who has led the committee, as well as Randall Abney, Les House, Jonathan Klein, Lane Norton, Rhonda Packer, Jeff Welch, and Bruce Zavitz. Also, let’s thank the parishioners who were kind enough to participate in an advisory capacity: Diane Barret, Alice Mohor, Maggie Reinberger, Mark Reinberger, Caley Ross, and Logan Sawyer.

Thank you all! With God’s help, we will continue to renew the place where beloved community has found a home.

Our Daily Bread

On Monday, January 25, the six-person St .G’s cooking team served lunch to 103 hungry Athenians at the Our Daily Bread lunchtime “soup” kitchen. The chili mac, cheesy bread, and fruit cocktail seemed to go over well. We had so much fun, we may consider expanding beyond fifth Wednesday in the future, so watch this space!
