January 2023
The Border Community Alliance is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging the border and fostering community through education, collaboration and cultural exchange.
Dear BCA friends and supporters,

Happy New Year, everyone!!

We’re looking forward to celebrating our 10th anniversary year with you in 2023.

Many of you have been with us from “the beginning” and others of you have joined along the way, and helped to make the Border Community Alliance (BCA), a unique, vibrant and well respected nonprofit throughout the Arizona borderlands and across the country. We appreciate the support that you have given in so many ways over the years - financial; through your donation of countless volunteer hours; by giving clothing, sewing supplies and other items to our Sonoran partner organizations; and in many other ways. We could not do our important work without this wonderful network of supporters.

We have a jam-packed schedule of events and tours planned for 2023 and we look forward to seeing you soon - please see the Upcoming Events list below. If you have an idea for an event or tour, please do reach out at cbavier@bordercommunityalliance.org.

In borderlands community,

UPDATE
Alma Cote de Yanez, Director

FESAC continues to work with Casa de la Misericordia, a nonprofit in Nogales, Sonora that supplies shelter, legal assistance, and educational services to families seeking asylum in the United States. In January, 50 new people arrived at Casa and it has a current waiting list of 1600 people.

Recently two new murals were painted by Lika, the director of the shelter and an artist. Through a grant from the Confluence Center at the University of Arizona to local artists, Lika was able to paint these murals which portray the hopes, dreams, and fears of migrants that pass through Casa on their journey to escape violence and seek a better life..

To support Casa de la Misericordia, go to https://bordercommunityalliance.org/donate and write Casa de la Misericordia in the Donor Note section.
From the beginning BCA has had a close relationship with FESAC, a Nogales, Sonora-based community foundation. This unique arrangement allows us to provide pass through donations to FESAC and to specific NGO community organizations that BCA/FESAC supports. We strongly stand with FESAC in lifting up local community by changing the narrative from charity to social investment.
