Phi Theta Kappa News
PTK Honor Society earns 4-Star Chapter status at the Nevada/California Spring Regional conference
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society members participated in the Nevada/California Spring Regional conference in March. In the fall of 2019, PTK was a 1-Star Chapter and the members set a goal of becoming a 5-Star chapter. The students who set that goal have transferred to 4-year colleges but their aspirations still inspire the current PTK Officers and club members. The PTK members have participated in community service activities, college projects like the development of the SCC Land Acknowledgement, leadership activities and social events in order to achieve their goal of 5-Star Chapter status. Every year they have earned an additional star through their commitment and hard work. This year, at the spring convention the SCC PTK Beta Mu Gamma Chapter was awarded 4-Star Status. PTK President, Grecia Lopez and PTK International Delegate/ICC Rep Scott Ferguson attended the convention in San Diego to accept the honor. The PTK students are already planning their Honors in Action project that is required for 5-Star Chapter status.

STEM Club and PTK collaborate on an Earth Recycling Drive
Recycling Drive 2022
On April 22, the STEM club and PTK organized a recycling drive in honor of Earth Day. This event was first held in Fall 2021 by the STEM Club, however they wanted to collaborate with another group to encourage more students from different groups at the college to attend. The partnership with PTK allowed for this event to be successful. The recycle drive collected twice as much recycling this spring than was collected in the fall drive. The two clubs organized the event and worked on flyers. PTK officers and STEM Club members volunteered during the event and helped load recycling, weigh bags and hand out flyers throughout the evening. Three students won prizes. First place was a reusable bag donated by @madelynlynn. The 2nd and 3rd runner ups won Solano swag and a gift card.
Beta Mu Gamma Chapter
The Solano Community College Beta Mu Gamma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa inducted 23 students on May 6th. Seventeen students and their families attend the hybrid induction ceremony held in the new LLRC while six students and several others participated via Zoom. The ceremony also recognized eleven PTK members who are graduating from SCC this spring. In addition, PTK officers for the 2022 -23 academic year took an oath of office. Co-Advisors Michael Wyly and LaNae Jaimez are extremely proud of the PTK officers and members for their commitment to the chapter and the ideals of PTK. Professor, Rachel Purdie, keynote speaker, acknowledged the PTK students for leadership and impact on Solano Community College. Professor, Rhuenette Alums, spoke about the Rising Scholars program at SCC. A separate induction ceremony recognizing the 47 Rising Scholars inductees will be conducted later this month.

EOPS Student Selected for Soroptimist's Live Your Dream Award
EOPS student, Amada Madrigal was selected as the Regional Winner for the Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award. The Soroptimist group sponsored her trip to Hawaii to receive the award. Amada has also joined the Financial Aid Team as a full-time Student Services Assistant II.

"My experience with the Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award was an exciting growth period for me. It was my first time applying and I did not think much was going to happen. I had applied in October and received the response of me winning the district award in December. I was genuinely happy to receive the recognition from local Business Women and I was eager to learn where the program can take me and the connections I would be making. After receiving the scholarship money for the district level Soroptimist informed me that I had also won the regional level which hasn’t been done in our district in the past 9 years...the Soroptimist team made us feel like family. I met amazing Women who are now helping to encourage me to reach my goals," Amada said.

Welcome to SCC, Amada and congratulations.
