Dear Friends of The Blue Purl,

We come to knitting, or crocheting, from different backgrounds and different neighborhoods.

We got started for different reasons, some of us were curious, others just bored and still others, introduced by our grandparents or parents.

We like different patterns, have different skills, and different budgets.
But when we walk into The Blue Purl and stand next to someone who also is looking for a beautiful yarn, or trying to figure out a pattern, our guess is you don’t see the difference, you see a like-minded friend, maybe an ally.

Thank you for that, for helping to make the world a better place.

That might sound overstated, even dramatic, but we believe it. We may not be able to change the whole world all at once, but we can change our worlds. Imagine how much nicer everything would be if every individual took the view that they could do good each day.

We live in a world where the news is filled with cases of people seeing others as others, because they look different, or pray differently, or dress differently, or come from a different background.

That view rips at the fabric of our communities. Who wants to live in an every-man-for-himself world? Not us!

That is why we said thank you earlier in this note.
Because you have chosen to be part of The Blue Purl community, to make the world a better place, even if just in our small corner of New Jersey.

We recently ran a picture in the newsletter of a guest who was wearing a work badge. Another client saw the picture and realized the two worked for the same company. From that picture, a new friendship was borne. The two talked together and bonded while discussing their impressions of NJWoolWalk.

That’s our community. Coming together over a shared passion. Cheering each other on. We are united over a core value: knit & crochet

Togetherness is key. Look at the pattern below this note. We were so excited when Yiba pointed out that Anjali published her first sweater pattern on Ravelry!
Yes!

Come to The Blue Purl. Bring your true self.
Let's change the world, one stitch at a time, together.

What's New?
Rosetrellis Sweater
One of our customers, Anjali Diwan, just released her first design on Ravelry and it's a colorwork sweater, no less. Nothing like jumping in the deep end, right away!

Rosetrellis is a topdown, knit in the round, seamless pullover with a beautiful floral motif that reflects its name perfectly. It has a slightly cropped modern fit that can be lengthened easily. The piece is knit in a hand dyed fingering. We put together some lovely color combos in Lichen & Lace, Spun Right Round and Tosh Merino Light for you to check out. The yarn can be purchased in our shop or online. Anjali's pattern is available for purchase on Ravelry.

You go Anjali! We are so proud of you!
Brighter Days
We have to agree with the sentiment. It does feel like brighter days are ahead, with the sun out and birds chirping. Melanie Berg's latest pattern, Brighter Days in Shibui Tweed Silk Cloud is also a top down seamless knit. Two strands of Shibui Tweed Silk Cloud are held knitted together throughout while a contrast color is placed at the yoke and in the arms for a playful accent. We have sweater quantities available in many colors for this lightweight knit. The pattern is available for purchase on Ravelry and the yarn can be found in the shop or online.
Straw Cardigan
Straw Cardigan by Joji Locatelli is perfect for cool evenings & dining outdoors. Using Woolfolk Stra, a DK-weight linen/flax Merino blend, the sweater gets its tweedy texture from this unique yarn blend. Straw Cardigan has a simple textured raglan shape with loose comfy sleeves. This will be the all purpose cardigan you reach for all summer long. The pattern can be purchased on Ravelry and Woolfolk Stra can be purchased online or in the store.
What Did I Come in For
I know we all say this after walking through the front door, but this is actually a pattern and our newest kit! This fun shawl uses Louisa Harding Pittura with colorful contrasting yarn in an easy colorwork pattern. The pattern is mainly in garter stitches and then mosaic color work is used for the accent.

By the way, Tam likes to call mosaic colorwork, kiddie colorwork because it uses slipped stitches, no stranding or worries about tension. This would be a great introduction to this simple technique. The pattern can be purchased on Ravelry and the kit is online or in the store.
Ra- Ra- Raffia!
Wool and the Gang's Ra-Ra Raffia is back & we have so many fun colors for the summer! Use it in your favorite crocheted or knitted summer totes. Not sure how to make one- join our crochet tote class and pick from these fun shades for a beach or market bag.

PS. This is NOT the raffia you buy to make ribbons on gifts. It is much stronger and built to last. And also the number 1 question - is it soft - YES it is. Like butta:)
Here is a Ravelry Bundle filled with patterns we think would be great with the Ra-RA Raffia! Both Knit and Crochet - but definitely crochet heavy :)
Tosh Re-stock!
We just received a quick re-stock of Tosh Merino Light colors that sold out immediately in the first shipment. Prickly Pear, Blue Sky, and Ironwood will be available in store & online asap!
Pippen
Pippen by Tamy Gore is a great kit for knitting in the shade outdoors. This simple meditative pattern uses 2 skeins of fingering weight yarn to create an asymmetrical delicate shawl with an easy lace panel throughout. We put together kits in Freia Handpaints to create the gradual movement in color shown in the designer's sample. We also put together color combos in Jill Draper Ansel and TML & Lichen & Lace. The Freia kits are available online or in the shop. The others are available separately online or ask us in the shop to put together a combo for you. The pattern can be purchased on Ravelry.

Anker Sweater Summer!
It really is Anker Summer Shirt Summer. (Say that 3X fast :) The Sandnes Garn company released their cotton/Linen blend, Line - PetiteKnit the pattern - and BOOM! Instant success. Cindy's looks fantastic. Way to go!
The Misurinas
Loving Marie's Misurina from our Spring KAL. Everything is bright in this- her smile, the sunshine & her beautiful top! Marie used Tosh Merino Light & her colors remind us of gorgeous spring flowers.
When the daughter gets a gift for Mother's Day!
Tam's Misurina went to her college daughter. She saw it when Mom was visiting for Mother's Day & said it was super cute. Of course Mom said she could have it. The real gift is the joy of someone truly appreciating your work. Tam used Tosh Merino Light in the new Shibui/Madelinetosh collaboration and a mini skein of Freia gradient for the contrast.
A Leftie
This Leftie looks so elegant on Cyndee. We love her choice of Baah's La Jolla Champagne as a backdrop to the fun Mad Tosh leftover colors (Leftie - get it !) It's a fun asymmetrical shawlette from Martina Behm's Hitchiker Collection. Awesome Cyndee!
Adventursome Garden
Check out Heather in her Adventuresome Cardi!! Corrine Wacher designed it for an Advent KAL and Heather chose Lichen and Lace to make this beautiful garden-like fade. Thanks for sharing -it is STUNNING!
Those Creative Crocheters!
We love crocheters. About 90% of the time when we ask them what pattern they used they say "I just did it." Diana just made up this cute summer top with Berroco's Medina. The cotton/acrylic blend has a nice long repeat. It's gorgeous Diana!
The Hard Cider
Our Hard Cider KAL was so much fun! We laughed, we cried (not really but it sounds good - well maybe we whined a bit - mostly about covid, not the pattern :) Mary Pat made this beautiful one in Jill Draper Makes Stuff Kingston. We all need to come together for a picture and send it off to designer Thea Coleman! Beautiful Mary Pat!
Jean's Shibui Mixer
Jean! Love this! Jean made the Debut Shawl by Katiuscia Bayslak with 3 different Shibuis - Silk Cloud, Pebble, and Birch. This shawl is a simple triangle made sideways. It's lovely Jean!
Betsy's Rasta Wrap
Sentiment a cozy shawl by designer Andrea Rangel is perfect with Malabrigo Rasta. What a quick gift for the winter months. Betsy did a wonderful job on this piece - love the lace! Bookmark this baby for when the Rasta shipment comes in! Awesome Betsy!
Priscilla's Dream
Loving the Dreyma (means dream in Icelandic) Priscilla made with Cascade 220. The yoke is signature for designer Jennifer Steingass, and Priscilla's color choice is awesome. Beautiful Priscilla!
Teri's Blocks
Teri, it's perfect! Teri made Michelle Hunter's Building Blocks Blanket during one of Keri's classes. She used Berroco's Vintage Chunky. We never tire of seeing the colors and combinations made with this blanket! Congrats Teri!! A++
Those Baby Pullovers!
The Baby Button Front Pullovers are another great project that have so many wonderful yarna and patterns. Here are two A great sailor look from Julie Ann who used Cascade 220 Superwash and a baby girl sweater, Kathie used Sublime Baby Cashmerino Silk DK. They are adorable you two!!! Thanks :)
