Which European country is on YOUR bucket list?
When you make the decision to take your family to Europe (for the first, or tenth time), you are signing up for a truly unique adventure! Europe is home to some of the world’s most iconic landmarks, and traveling there with kids can be a fun, educational, and enriching experience.
You can introduce your kids to important events and cultures in a fun and interactive way. My kids loved taking tours of castles and palaces, and learning how people lived in ancient times, when we visited Spain last year.
What to Expect When Embarking on a European Vacation
Cultural exposure: Europe is a melting pot of different cultures, languages, and traditions. By visiting different countries, you and your children can broaden your horizons and learn about diversity.
Adventure: Europe offers a wide range of exciting activities such as interactive museums, scenic bike rides, river boat cruising, and fascinating architecture. As an added bonus - European cuisine is an adventure in itself, and a great way to introduce young ones to a variety of flavors and culinary traditions.
Family bonding: I’ve said this before and I truly mean it - Traveling together as a family can be a great way to strengthen bonds and create lasting memories. We did incur some challenges like understanding public transit, hauling luggage, etc., and we had some interesting, but fun times engaging in real-time problem-solving and decision-making!
Overall, a family vacation to Europe is the perfect blend of adventure, culture, and unforgettable memories!

A few things to keep in mind for a European trip:
- Hotel rooms are much smaller than the rooms & suites in the USA - keep this in mind when packing!
- Dinner is late, and many restaurants are closed in the afternoon, and reopen around 8pm
- Most hotels don’t provide washcloths! Bring your own in your suitcase if you need it for your hygiene routine

Flights to Europe are expensive! The best time to purchase tickets is 4-6 months in advance of the trip. Also, it is best to purchase tickets through the airline (or via your travel agent) and not through a discount broker, like Expedia). You don’t want to be stuck with a canceled flight in a foreign country and trying to work with Expedia while overseas.
Bonus PRO tip:
Exchange money at an ATM for the best exchange rates. Even though the kiosk at the airport claims to be a “no fee” kiosk, their exchange rate is (usually) poor and you will be losing out on a few hundred dollars by visiting the kiosk. To maximize your money, exchange it at a local ATM in your destination.
