Ventura Water Billing Updates
The City of Ventura continually invests in our water and wastewater systems to maintain safe and reliable services. In May 2021, City Council approved five-year water and wastewater rate increases needed to operate and maintain vital infrastructure and invest in forward-looking projects that:

  • Repair and replace aging infrastructure
  • Meet regulatory, environmental, and legal requirements
  • Improve water quality
  • Secure water supply

Beginning July 1, 2021, new water and wastewater rates will be implemented. The average Ventura household (utilizing 9 HCF) will see an average monthly increase of $7.76 increase on an annual basis over 5 years.

Additionally, Ventura Water is proud to announce its transition from bi-monthly to monthly billing. Moving forward, customers will receive a Ventura Water bill each month.  This improvement will enhance transparency for our customers, allowing for better budgeting and water management.

Comprehensive Water Resources Report
In May, City Council approved the Annual Comprehensive Water Resources Report and a Water Shortage Event Update.

Each year, Ventura Water assesses the City’s water supply sources – Lake Casitas, Ventura River, and local groundwater basins – in the Comprehensive Water Resources Report (CWRR).

The report evaluates the City’s water supply and demand, while considering future needs, challenges and uncertainties relating to Ventura’s water supply reliability.

The results of the 2021 CWRR indicate that the City of Ventura’s projected water supply is 16,345 acre-feet (AF) and projected water demand is 15,631 AF, indicating that the City of Ventura is currently not experiencing a water shortage event.

Ventura Water customers’ continued water conservation efforts have allowed the City to avoid a critical water shortage situation. Over the last five years, Ventura residents have consistently exceeded conservation goals, conserving an average of 22 percent compared to usage in 2013.

While the City’s supply projections account for this year’s record low rainfall, customers are encouraged to maintain their current level of conservation as Ventura’s local water supplies continue to be vulnerable due to drought, regulatory, operational, and legal challenges.

Ventura Water extends its sincere appreciation to Ventura residents for their continued commitment to improved water efficiency as the State of California shifts towards making water conservation a California way of life”.

Bug of the Month
Do you know why the amoeba failed math class? Because it multiplied by dividing! There important specimens reproduce or “multiply” by creating an exact genetic replica of itself.

Amoebas are an important contributor to the biological process used to treat and clean our wastewater. These living creatures naturally digest and breakdown solid waste in our water.

As a reminder, amoebas and other sensitive microbes can be impacted when the contaminants are sent down the drain. To keep our treatment system running smoothly, please think before you flush!

The Water Commission will not be meeting during the months of July and August. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on September, 28, 2021.
