Principals' Message

We are nearing the end the 2020-2021 school year. Though it certainly has been a challenging one, educating and spending time with our students brings us joy. We look forward to the 2021-2022 school year, anticipating things approaching closer to “normal,” and seeing all of our students face to face! Let’s finish this year strong, and congratulations to the graduating class of 2021!

Return borrowed school items between May 17-21

Between May 17-21, families can drop off anything owed to the school to the front office from 7:45 am – 4:30 pm. Please label the items with your student’s full name, grade level, and the teacher it belongs to. Items to return may include: Library books, Art supplies, Design materials, English lit library books, Manipulatives for Math, etc.

Return Chromebooks and Laptops May 26 from 5–7 pm

Please bring up all loaned devices and chargers the last day of school. We will have a carline style drop off May 26 from 5–7 pm at the Lions Cage between the Primary and Middle school buildings. You will not have to get out of cars.  Make sure all items are labeled with the student's full name and grade, as well as the teacher (if applicable). If this date/time does not work for you, you can bring items back early between May 17-21 during school hours.
2021 Teacher of the Year Nominations due May 14
Please help us select our 2021 Middle and High School teachers of the year! Not only are your nominations important in helping us to select the award winner, it is also a great way of giving positive feedback to wonderful teachers, as we share what has been written about them (without sharing student or parent names) with the teachers who are nominated.

Nominations are due by tomorrow, May 14.

Student Awards

Teachers have begun reaching out to students who have won course and learner profile awards, offering their praise and congratulations. They will continue reaching out this week, and we will publish the names of award winners in next week’s Lions Share. Roar, Lions, Roar!

Join us Wednesday, May 19 from 2–3 pm for both in-person and online activities, including Gimkit (a cool quiz game for students), DIY virtual activity (origami), and DIY in-person crafts (craft potluck).

A Sign-Up Genius link with limited slots for In Person participation will be offered soon. All virtual activities have unlimited slots for participation to middle school students. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Hopson at [email protected].
Last Chance to Order Yearbook

Balfour had some technical difficulties with the online yearbook store, so the deadline to order a yearbook with free name engraving on the cover has been extended to May 20. If you are not sure if you ordered a yearbook, please email Mr. Manuszak at [email protected].

Free STEM Camp for Middle School Students June 14-18
Students in 6th through 8th grade are invited to join a free week-long STEM camp, hosted by two Meridian high school students. The camp teaches kids the basics of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a little bit about Website Graphics. By the end of the camp, kids will have skills to create a website with a basic layout and will have created their own personal profile website.

Activities will be fun and engaging and designed for a Middle School level. The camp runs June 14-18 from 10 am to noon. There are limited spots, so register as soon as you can. If you are curious, head to our website, and look at the information page to see more camp details and the About Us page to see about the camp teachers: Aparna and Harini Majety. We encourage you to sign up and can’t wait to see you there! Sign up here.
Snacks for Seniors!

Our seniors are officially done with regular classes May 14. We would like for them to have access to some snacks and beverages while they enjoy their last eight days on campus.

It is important that all snacks are single serving/individually wrapped. Sign up via this Sign Up Genius. You can drop off items in either the primary or high school lobby any day starting Monday, May 17. Questions? Contact [email protected]. Thank you!
