City Council met in regular session this past Monday, April 19 at City Hall. Here are a few highlights from that meeting:

FINANCIAL REPORT: The City Finance Director gave an update on city revenue and expenditures showing so far this fiscal year a positive variance of $473,706 in revenue, and a savings in expenditures of $191,065. It was indicated that the additional revenue was mainly due to better than anticipated sales tax revenue.

FLINT ROCK ZONING CHANGE: City Council approved a zoning change request with amendments. The request is to change R-1 and C-1 to PUD. This location is at 15617 Flint Rock Road. Legacy DCS is proposing 126 detached single-family residential homes on the approximately 22.859 acre parcel of land in this location near the intersection of Wild Cherry Drive and Flintrock Road. This action followed a recent traffic study conducted along Flintrock Road by Huitt-Zollars. Click here to see the draft of that traffic study.

OAKS PUD/MAIN STREET: Stratus Properties, Inc. gave another update on the undeveloped portion of the Oaks Planned Unit Development, which is located just behind H-E-B. It's a section that would include the future extension of Main Street. Two options were presented Monday night to include R-2 homes and another with multi-family housing and 26 acres of parkland. The options would also include the building of the middle section of Main Street. City Council made a motion to have Stratus work with city staff to better define the multi-family option. CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN: The City Manager along with the Police Chief, Parks & Recreation Director and Public Works Director presented the first draft list of projects to be considered for the Capital Improvement Plan, which outlines large city projects and purchases that could take place over the course of the next five (5) years. The draft list includes several park improvement projects, road maintenance projects and equipment for the police department. For the first phase, City Council did approve three parks projects that were within the parks budget for this fiscal year. Those approved projects to be completed this year include an updated all-inclusive playground for City Park, a Hurst Creek Sculpture Garden sidewalk and a mobile LED screen trailer for various events. A more formalized draft of the Capital Improvement Plan will be presented at an upcoming City Council meeting for projects outlined in future fiscal years.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month is observed in April and is an opportunity to focus on community awareness related to the causes and risk factors of sexual assault. It is also a time to empower individuals to take steps to prevent sexual assaults from happening.

Here are some statistics related to sexual assault:

Victims of sexual assault have options here in Lakeway. The victim may make a report to the Lakeway Police Department to file charges and receive Victim Services support. The sooner a report is made, the probability of collecting substantial evidence for the cases increases. Forensic exams are normally performed within 120 hours of the assault. The victim may also choose not to report the assault to law enforcement, but still pursue evidence collection through a SAFE exam. The victim in this case can still reach out to Victim Services for support. Evidence collected may be stored at the Teas Department of Public Safety lab for two years.

If you still need a COVID-19 vaccine, there is an opportunity this weekend. Yesterday it was announced that no appointments will be required for a vaccine event happening this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas located at 9201 Circuit of the Americas Blvd. Anyone age 16 and above will qualify to get their free first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. The event is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Click here for details.

There are currently 952 active cases at this time in Travis County (down from 1,093 last week) and 144 individuals hospitalized in the region (up from 131 last week).
