Announcement from NOTO's President
Bob Garson - Garson's Fly-In Outposts
Hello Everyone,
On behalf of the NOTO Board and Staff, we would like to extend the early bird membership pricing for the remainder of 2021. As we are all aware, this year is not headed in the direction that we had expected or hoped it would. We realize the hardship that continues to burden our industry. At the 2020 annual general meeting, members voted to increase the membership fees to ensure that NOTO could still function at the high level you expect. This unforeseen spring has caused us to consider the consequences and impacts of this fee increase to our members.
As a result, we are extending the early bird membership rate for the whole year in hopes of returning a little something to our loyal Regular and Preferred Supplier members. We also welcome new members at these rates for 2021. We are stronger together.
For those of you who participated in the Early Bird Promotion and paid your membership by March 31st, 2021 you will still be entered in our annual draw. There are more details included in this newsletter.
This reduced fee will still allow NOTO to continue it's work on behalf of the resource-based tourism sector and at the same time allow us to show some appreciation to those who contribute to our efforts.
Thanks from NOTO Board and Staff.

In Memoriam
It is with sadness that we convey the passing of Craig Carlson, former owner of Viking Outposts in Red Lake. Craig passed away March 29, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Craig is survived by his wife Rosanne, two daughters Stephanie and Mallory, and soon to be 4 grandchildren.
He leaves behind his brother Hugh Carlson and sister in-law Enid Carlson and their family. Craig and Hugh were in the tourism business together for 50 years where Craig served as chief pilot. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Our deepest sympathies go out to Rosanne, Hugh and their families and friends.

TIAO Call - Tuesday April 6th
Next Tuesday's industry stakeholder calls will provide an industry update on provincial announcements, further updates on the Ontario budget and Mental Health education with special guest, Hassel Aviles from Not 9 to 5.
With over 15 years of experience in marketing and leadership in the food and beverage industry, Hassel Aviles has grown a fiery passion for restaurants, events and entrepreneurship. She grew up working in restaurants and from there, she created the Toronto Underground Market (TUM), a large-scale culinary festival designed as an incubator for food entrepreneurs, chefs and home cooks in 2011. Hassel successfully remained as founder and managing director for three years and led an executive committee and as well as hundreds of volunteers. This movement elevated the local economy, tourism, Toronto's culinary industry and even led her to become a restaurateur.
After years of event production and being a culinary entrepreneur, Hassel's passion for the industry is now seen through her work as the Executive Director of Not 9 to 5 Organization. Not 9 to 5 is a non-profit organization that empowers hospitality, food and beverage service workers by mobilizing support for mental health and substance use.
