Thursday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time
Taking the Gospel to Prayer
As the Sermon on the Mount continues, Jesus teaches us about the destructive power of anger. In using three progressive references, we are reminded that anger can have compounding effects. We might justify our feelings at first, but we must not deny that anger can lead to bias, discrimination, retaliation, etc.
Jesus calls us to reconciliation. Again, here the lesson is two-fold. We cannot harbor the anger/the sin. We need to address it and let the anger go. This is for the sake of the relationship with our brother, but also for our own peace of mind. Left unchecked, anger can spiral into unforeseen consequences for all impacted by the emotion.
Lord, help me to deal with my anger and hurt feelings. Give me the grace to forgive and seek forgiveness so that Your healing love can bring peace to my soul.
Lord Jesus, help me to grow closer to You today.
