Connecticut Truckers Grapple With New Highway Tax
Connecticut Post
With a new highway use tax set to taking effect with the new year, the trucking industry in Connecticut still has many questions about how to comply and who must pay the tax and is also floating the possibility of legal action.
“If we can’t find a legislative or regulatory remedy, then at that point, all bets are off and we need to look at all avenues for redress,” said John Blair, president of the Motor Transport Association of Connecticut. “We are assessing whether or not there’s a legal remedy that we could seek if we’re not going to get a legislative or regulatory remedy.”

A look at commercial truck, trailer trends for 2023
Fleet Owner
Truck and trailer manufacturers offer their predictions and review some of the top heavy-duty truck and trailer trends that will continue to impact fleets in 2023.
Fleet managers and executives must always be aware of where the industry is heading in terms of what equipment and technology are available and how to maintain them. This, however, hasn't been easy with all the changes, advances, disruptions, and supply shortages in the last few years.

Autonomous tech companies tackle tire problems in absence of a driver
CCJ
Among the concerns with truly driverless trucks is how it can safely travel on slick and wet roads or handle a catastrophic failure when a person isn't onboard to judge and compensate for hazardous conditions.
Autonomous tech developers have taken various approaches to handling a wide range of potential hazards, including using data collected by the tire itself to predict when a problem might arise and making tire problems part of their platform's fail safe protocols.

Reading Trucking’s Regulatory Roadmap for 2023
Heavy Duty Trucking
There’s no such thing as a typical year in American politics and governance — and 2023 won’t come anywhere close to being that unicorn. Not in the face of the historic thrashing Republicans received in the midterm elections, which barely allowed the GOP to seize control of the House and cost it one seat in the Senate, enough to give Democrats full control of that chamber.

Can Heavy Electric Trucks Be Deployed Industrywide by 2045?
Transport Topics
WASHINGTON — Successful electrification of heavy trucks will require motor carriers to coordinate driver rest periods with charging their trucks, a potential obstacle that could increase carrier operational costs and result in delivery delays.
That potential challenge was among several researchers outlined at a session Jan. 9 at the annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board.

MJF Materials is putting together a complete natural gas fleet operation
Fleet Equipment
For Michael Forte, what started as a typical desire to spec more fuel-efficient trucks has led to an all encompassing move into CNG-powered vehicles and a dedicated fueling infrastructure. Today, just two and a half years later, he couldn’t be more pleased with the results.
Forte’s company, MJF Materials of Lindenwold, N.J., operates 30 Class 8 dump trucks to haul sand and stone from its quarries in Pennsylvania to asphalt and concrete plants. Customers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey are mostly located within 100 miles of the quarries. The seasonal business, which handles about 850,000 tons per year, is supplemented by hauls of salt during winter months.
