CALPA Hosts Keynote Speaker and Poster Session at
The Path Forward
Engaging in Partnerships
Keynote Speaker: Betty Sun
At next month's all-partner summit at Asilomar (details listed below), CALPA will be hosting a special keynote session on October 16th from Betty Sun of ParksRx in San Francisco. Her talk is entitled Bridging Park and Health Equity through Park Prescriptions.
At the end of the keynote, participants in The Path Forward event will be invited to stay for a networking and poster session. We encourage all participants to collaborate with their park partners to create a poster for this session as a way to present their park's story.
Poster Session: You are invited to participate!
Do you have a recent success story, challenge or initiative at your park that you would like to share with other park partners? CALPA invites you to "Share Your Park's Story" at a Poster Session at this year's The Path Forward: Engaging in Partnerships event at Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, California. Posters will be available for viewing by the attendees through the day on October 16, 2019 and the Live Poster Session is scheduled for the afternoon of October 16, 2019. During the Live Poster Session, you will have an opportunity to stand next to your poster and talk with other attendees about your great story!
Who is invited to submit: Park Staff and Park Partner Groups (nonprofits, concessionaires, etc.) who have a story to share. We encourage you to work together with your partner on your submission.
What types of topics should the poster cover?: The poster should focus on a recent success or challenge at your park (for example, a new visitor's center, new educational program, successful grant proposal, damage from California wildfires, Initiative to Reach Under-served Communities, etc.).
To participate in the poster session, please complete the interest form no later than October 1, 2019 (poster holders need to be preordered). We cannot guarantee space for your poster after this deadline. Posters should be brought to the Asilomar Conference Grounds during The Path Forward and submitted to a CALPA representative no later than noon on October 16th.

California State Parks' Partnerships Division presents:
The Path Forward
Engaging in Partnerships
Park Partners and State Park Staff are strongly encouraged to
register now for
Engaging in Partnerships (EIP)! You won't want to miss this all-partner summit, coming to Asilomar Conference Grounds October 15-17, 2019. This year's theme is The Path Forward and with recent changes in the department's organizational structure, what better time to hear from those involved. You will have the opportunity to hear directly from Director, Lisa Mangat, and the four field division chiefs, who will hold workshops to discuss State Park's reorganization, park operations, and the evolving relationships between partners and State Parks.
The Partnerships Division has partnered with
CALPA and
CPHA (California Park Hospitality Association) to organize valuable sessions on a variety of topics including:
- Visitor service trends in public lands
- Annual and business plan development
- Hospitality retail operations
- Partnership best practices
- Demonstrating the impact of programs
- DPR project planning
- Park Story Poster Session
- And many more (Click here for latest schedule)
PARTNERS:
CLICK HERE to register with Asilomar Conference Grounds or for those of you who wish to attend but stay somewhere other than Asilomar, you must RSVP to
Brie Grossman to ensure you are registered for the training. If you choose to not stay at Asilomar a meal package is available for individuals staying offsite.
STATE PARK STAFF: If you plan to attend, please register via ETMS and email
Brie Grossman indicating the partner you're attending with and the number of nights you'll need accommodations.
If your organization has 5 or more employees, then all staff are required by law to attend sexual harassment prevention training. In 2018 the governor signed SB 1343, which expanded the requirement for which businesses must receive sexual harassment training, including small businesses with 5 or more employees.
As a free service to California State Park partners, State Parks will be offering the sexual harassment prevention training for employees and supervisors on Friday, October 18 at Asilomar, immediately following the Engaging in Partnerships training. The 4-hour course for all employees, called Bear in Mind, will be held from 8 am to noon, and the additional 2-hour course for supervisors will be held from 1 pm - 3 pm. To take advantage of this free training opportunity, please RSVP to
Brie Grossman. Please indicate how many will be attending and if they are regular staff or a supervisor.
We look forward to seeing you in October!
