An Update from the NLRA Youth Conservation Corps
The NLRA Youth Conservation Corps is on the job, working to implement and maintain stormwater management features throughout the watershed. Crew member Dylan Collins gives the update below:
In the first two weeks of the season the YCC has completed several projects in the area. Much of our time has been spent at Grey Rocks preparing a rain garden for the NLRA Volunteer Day. The project involved digging out the area, laying down landscape fabric, backfilling with mulch, and planting. We have also spent some time improving the Cummings Beach swale through weeding and pruning the existing plants.
The YCC is available for maintenance of existing stormwater projects such as remulching rain gardens and improving stormwater capacity. We have already visited a property in Hebron to refresh their shoreline planting bed mulch and we strengthened and extended an existing water bar on Whittemore Point.
We have more projects lined up for the next few weeks and are always looking for more work! We plan to clean out a roadside infiltration trench in Bristol and install a pervious pathway to a shoreline in Bridgewater. Maintenance will continue on existing projects, such as the Cummings Beach swale and ongoing stormwater projects at Grey Rocks Conservation Area.
Contact Program Manager Andrew Veilleux at Andrew@NewfoundLake.org to schedule a free stormwater assessment of your property and to learn more about how the YCC can implement stormwater management projects to benefit your property and Newfound Lake.
