Highlights from Principal Kara Butler
Phased Return Info: We had a good response rate from families to the survey about who wants to come back in person. About 35% of students opted to return to school in person (hybrid model, with two days a week at school). Mrs. Butler and colleagues are planning out how that would work. Starting on April 12 we’ll go into Phase 3 (9th graders and prioritized students may opt in to return for hybrid instruction) and on April 26, we will go into Phase 4 (10th-12th graders may opt in to return for hybrid instruction).

Sports: Our first home game was played on March 15th! The Field Hockey team had a successful outing and we look forward to our other sports starting up as soon as they can safely do so. You can watch live Leigh High School sports here: http://leighsportsboosters.org/live-stream-games/

Theater: Listen to the Theater Arts department's first radio play "The Scarlet Plague" by Jack London. This story, originally written in 1912, is now dramatically acted out by the students of Leigh High School's Thespian Troupe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLg5JDWN9Ho

Bingo with Butler Recap: Bingo With Butler was a huge success! Students, parents, teachers and admin all had so much fun together. A huge thank you to Mrs. Butler for being such a wonderful Bingo Caller! The Home & School Club will coordinate another Bingo Night in the future and we would love to see you there. Congratulations to all of our winners who received Leigh blankets, hoodies and pajama bottoms.

Hey parents! Did you know that *every Monday* there is a Student Weekly Bulletin which is absolutely full of information and will answer lots of questions that you, as a parent, may have been asking, like:

  • Is there a prom this year?
  • Where are the live stream links to watch sports games this week?
  • How can a student join a club?
  • What's happening for Women's History Month, and where can I watch that great interview with Principal Butler?

Answers to these questions and more are in Leigh's Student Weekly Bulletin. Created by Leigh's Activities Director Dr. Anthoney Roe, the bulletin includes updates on what's happening each week in student activities, sports, visual arts, performing arts, clubs and more.

» ADDITIONALLY, Dr. Roe keeps the Leigh High School Facebook page up-to-date with loads of information for students and Leigh families.

Attention Senior parents; Can you believe it? Do you hear that calendar page turning? Is your lawn feeling naked?

The following items were approved for funding at our March Home & School Club meeting:

  • $230 for a one-year BrainPop subscription for the Autism Program.
  • $120 for a subscription to Book Creator for the Mandarin Program.
WHAT ELSE IS YOUR HOME & SCHOOL CLUB UP TO?

  • Our Campus Beautification Team, Kelly Masini, Tamiko House & Ashleigh Coffeng, worked with a signage company to install new metal medallions with the current Leigh logo in the campus quad.

  • Our Staff Appreciation Team, Amanda Bierly, Alexis Hoekstra & Amy Sells, delivered lunch and a T-shirt to each of our teachers during the week of March 22nd as they worked from home.

  • Our Club Support Chair, Anne Haro, is working with Dr. Roe, Leigh Activities Director, to match parent volunteers with Clubs that are seeking support. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Anne at clubsupport@leighhsc.org.

  • Our Mental Health Support Chair, Kristin Welter, is supporting Mrs. Butler with mental wellness programs including Haert and the Wellness Center (a new initiative that we are very excited to support). We are also sourcing corporate grants to partially fund the cost of the Haert program. If you work at a company that offers grants to nonprofits, we’re asking for your support to secure corporate funding that will help cover the program cost. Please contact us at haertfundraising@leighhsc.org.

  • Our Grad Night Committee Chairs, Kristina Williams & Kris Suzuki, are hard at work planning an event for our Seniors. More info to come very soon!

  • The Home & School Club invites you to join our Board and Committees next year. We would love to chat with you and discuss options that might work for you. More info below.

JOIN THE 2021-2022 HSC BOARD & COMMITTEES
The Leigh Home & School Club invites you to join our Board and Committees next year. Given that many of our students and staff will be on campus for the first time in a long time, this will be a different year for all of us and we will need to provide more support than ever to our entire community.

Most Home & School Club tasks are done from home and do not require you to be at school. All skills and interests are needed, and you can put in as much or as little time as you have available. We have a variety of projects such as ... project planning, community building, financial management, communications, fundraising, gardening, writing, technology support, volunteer coordination, College & Career Center support etc. If you have a skill you'd like to share or you are someone who just likes to get stuff done, please get in touch!

We also need parents for annual events/activities such as Student Registration Support in August, the Stampede 5K Run/Walk in May, and Senior Grad Night in June.

Many of our Board roles are shared by two people, and we have multiple people on each of our committees. The more people we have, the more fun it is and the easier it is for all as we can share the workload. This is a wonderful way to support our school and also get to know other parents in our community!

We would love to chat with you and discuss options that might work for you. Please share your info using this form and we will be in touch with you shortly.
