SUCCESS STORY HIGHLIGHT
Meet Ime
Finding it difficult to solidify a stable foundation after his release from incarceration in 2017, Ime fell into homelessness. "Being on parole was a major barrier for me," he states.

In 2018, Ime contacted the Weingart Center seeking Crisis Housing services, completing the program in 2019.

In 2020, Ime received additional Crisis Housing services and enrolled in the Weingart Center's Open Door program.

One of Ime's goals after getting off parole was to obtain permanent housing. He states, "permanent housing was necessary for me to gain stability and reconnect with my family."

Working closely with his case manager, Ime remained focused on fulfilling another goal in his housing/stability plan: obtaining employment. He received a certificate of completion for OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training, a course designed to train employees on proper cleanup operations, emergency response operations, and the storage, disposal, and treatment of hazardous substances.

In April of 2020, Ime successfully transitioned into permanent housing while receiving residential and non-residential services through the Weingart Center and outside agencies such as People Concern, JWCH Clinic, and others. After the delivery of his home furnishings, provided through the Skid Row Move-In Assistance Program, Ime shared his appreciation. "I am overwhelmed by how much I received. I was not expecting so much," he states.

Gratified with the services he received through the Weingart Center, Ime sent a personal email to his Case Manager, the Program Supervisor, and the Open Door Program Manager thanking them for their support.

Believing his own success in overcoming homelessness can help others, Ime advises, "Don't give up."
Meet Sammy
Sammy was forced back to living on the streets of Downtown L.A. after being discharged from a facility where he no longer met the mental health requirements of that program.

In April 2021, Sammy arrived at the Hilda L. Solis Care First Village, operated by the Weingart Center.

When he arrived at the facility, Sammy expressed his gratitude along with the desire to have his ADA service animal. Once Sammy was able to obtain his ADA dog, he expressed feeling more optimistic as the service animal, "helps increase my mobility and helps widen my social circle," Sammy states. "More than anything, I feel more independent and have a heightened sense of individualism."

Sammy is working on a housing plan that includes sensitivities to persons with different needs and accessibility. Sammy is also attending graduate-level classes that specialize in communication with individuals with hearing impairment.

Although Sammy has not obtained permanent housing yet, his journey is proving successful.

A SPECIAL MESSAGE
Dear friends,

Summer means a lot of things to a lot of people. For some, it means warm weather, vacations, and numerous trips to the beach. But for those experiencing homelessness, summer can be particularly harsh. High temperatures can cause a myriad of health issues, not only for people experiencing homelessness but their pets as well.

After the loosening of year-long COVID restrictions, we are all anxious to get back into the swing of things and begin enjoying everything summer has to offer. But as you know, the homeless crisis in Southern California has only grown in the past year due, in part, to the increased loss of income and housing for thousands across our great state.

There has never been a better time to help the Weingart Center fulfill its mission of providing the basic tools necessary to help someone stabilize their life, secure income, and find permanent housing. The Weingart Center offers many programs and services that are designed to empower, transform, and break the cycle of homelessness for thousands in the greater Los Angeles area.

Your tax-deductible donation helps the Weingart Center provide direct services to more than 44,000 economically disadvantaged individuals this year.

Thank you for your continued support, and may you have an incredible summer!
