UBCM Advocacy Days 2021
 
UBCM’s Executive held its 8th annual Advocacy Days virtually this year during the May Executive meeting. Over two days, Executive members met with over 40 MLAs from all parties, including Premier John Horgan, 8 ministers, the leader of the Official Opposition, and both caucus chairs. Meetings focussed on UNDRIP, local government finance and the mental health and opioid crises.
MMIWG National Action Plan
 
The Federal Government has released a National Action Plan to address the violence, racism and disproportionate deaths of Indigenous women and girls in Canada, outlining short-term priorities corresponding to seven goals for transformative change. Read more
Electoral Area Director's summer meeting
 
Electoral Area Directors and alternates, RD Chairs and RD staff are invited to attend a virtual session on Monday June 28 from 10am – 12pm with the UBCM EA Representative, Director Grace McGregor, to discuss potential platforms for ongoing communication. Attendees are invited to bring forward their ideas for discussion. Please register for this free session by June 24.
Input sought on auxiliary policing options

The Province has established an Auxiliary Program – BC Model Working Group to review options for a long-term BC auxiliary policing program. The Working Group is currently inviting local governments to participate in a short survey seeking to understand community perspectives and preferences related to auxiliary policing. Completed surveys will be accepted until June 25, 2021. Read more
