Pastors Points

Throughout our lives, we find ourselves experiencing shifts and changes. Some changes are good and some are bad, but all of them can increase stress, spur questions, and cause angst, even grief, because though change is inevitable, they can produce a sense of the unknown mixed with hope. Such situations affect each of us differently, but they do affect us.

If you've been following the news, or even if you have not, my guess is that we are all feeling a bit of anxiety. Whether it's in politics, political protests, or news from the General Conference of The UMC, many feel we are in the midst of a shift...maybe a seismic shift...in the world, society, and the church. All of which is scary and disconcerting.

Sundays, we gather for worship and bring all of this with us, whether we like it or not, and in truth, this is exactly where we need to bring it, because if anyone can handle change, it is the unchanging God. If there is anywhere we can come and be real with one another, it should be as the Body of Christ.

Sunday, we close out our sermon series on Calvin vs. Wesley, with a message simply asking, "What Shall We Do?" In referring to these two theologians, they asked this question all the time, sometimes to themselves or others, but most often to God. As we ask this question in a time where there seems to be so much change, we too ask the question of ourselves and others, but we also ask it of God.

When asking What Shall We Do, how might God lead us? How might God call us to follow? How might God be already showing us what steps are ahead of us in living into God's call for the people of Fredericksburg UMC?

Hope you'll be here Sunday as we together, begin to ask God together, "What Shall We Do?"

See you Sunday!

Help Share Christ through Technology - Through audiovisuals and live streaming, Christ reaches hearts in the church and out into the world through the internet, and it is now a vital and necessary ministry of the church. We need folks to help advance the slides on Sunday mornings, as well as help with sound and camera work (all are a lot easier than they sound). You can email David Kirven music@fumcva.org, to get involved! . Join us and make worship come alive for folks inside and outside the church!

Strength Finders

Strengthsfinder is an inventory used to help people discover and live into our strengths. Over the past years, Pastor Mary (pastormary@fumcva.org ) led opportunities to take the inventory. If you have taken the Strengthsfinder inventory, our leadership would love to know your top 5. Please fill out this quick form by going here: https://forms.gle/Lz18gT8uwzVNPTKZA

If you do not remember your top 5 strengths, please email Pastor Mary and she can send them to you.

GREEN TIPS

Easy things to do to be better Caretakers of God’s Creation!!.

Avoid pesticides or chemicals on your lawn or garden. They can kill pollinators, which we rely on for food production; and they can find their way into the water table and river. There they can affect our drinking water and may even make us sick or cause harm to wildlife. Another problem is that they can contribute to algae blooms which block sunlight to river and lake organisms and deplete oxygen in the water. Alternatives are weeding and appropriate plant choices. Your local plant store may have good advice

This coming Sunday ...

This Sunday is the Fredericksburg Great Train Race, a kids’ foot race downtown. Please be aware that parking around the church may be limited, and there will be some street closures that could affect your drive (not Hanover or Charlotte St, but parts of Princess Anne & Sophia St)

The Marine Corps Historic Half is returning to the City of Fredericksburg on Sunday, May 19, 2024. This 13.1 mile run winds through portions of Central Park, Cowan Boulevard, Hospital Hill and Historic Downtown areas. Planned road closures and traffic delays are scheduled for Sunday, May 19th with street closures, altered traffic patterns, and parking restrictions affecting residents throughout the Fredericksburg area beginning at 3:00 a.m. – 5:00 am until approximately 11:00 a.m.

Please find attached the map of the race course and how church attendees may find their way to the church for Sunday morning service. Please review the race map and plan ahead for the expected May 19th road closures.

If you are RUNNING this race (we know of 2 members who are!) Let us know by email to Allison, and our cheer squad will look for you!
