Update on Nagalem: International Inbound Program
We are happy to report that Nagalem is doing well
and has started school for the first time this fall!

Yohannes Tocha works with the local government in Southwest Ethiopia and lives a few hours from Nagalem’s village.  Yohannes has been an invaluable asset to our team as he has been able to visit her at her home several times. He has shared photos and has been able to provide insight to us on how she is healing. She is growing and it is exciting for us to see her doing so well.
The photos below tell the BEST story of all.
Nagalem is happy and thriving with her family!

All in all, her scars are healing up nicely. In order to help keep her chin incision healing well, we are supplying her with gel sheeting for that area.  This will help in the healing process. We are so grateful to have connected with Yohannes and appreciate his thoughtful and caring approach to keeping us connected to Nagalem and her family.
Gavina Gabourel Graduates from Nursing School!
Gavina Gabourel came to the United States under the sponsorship of Healing the Children Northeast in 2006 at the age of 5 and again at age 13 for the correction of a serious birth defect. Her 20-hour surgery was conducted at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center by a team of physicians led by Dr. Michael Bourque.

Gavina remained in Connecticut for several months for postoperative care, residing at the home of Mary and Steve Tracy in Goshen, CT and attended the WAMOGO Regional High School in Litchfield, CT. The Tracy’s have kept in touch with Gavina over the years, visiting her at her home in Belize on several occasions.

Thanks to Healing the Children’s intervention, Gavina has been able to lead a life of good health, happiness and accomplishment. In 2015, she married Alfred Cunningham, a police officer in Belize City. And earlier this fall, she graduated from the University of Belize with a
degree in nursing.

Congratulations Gavina!
