February 2024

February Love

February offers many opportunities to spotlight awareness and celebrate special occasions.

February is Black History Month. This month highlights the diverse voices and stories that have left a lasting mark on our society. Through various events, education, and reflection, we embrace the opportunity to commemorate the cultural richness and enduring legacy of the Black community. Check out these awesome events from the University of Nevada, Reno, and the City of Reno celebrating history and culture throughout the month of February.

As another exciting football season draws to a close, our anticipation builds for the Super Bowl on February 11. While we all have our favorite team, and some of us may only tune in for the halftime show or fourth quarter, this season has been filled with thrilling victories and heart-wrenching defeats. While we're gearing up for a safe celebration, delicious snacks, and the anticipation of a great game, we are most definitely ready for entertaining commercials. And, how exciting that all eyes will be on Las Vegas as Nevada has the chance to host Super Bowl LVIII at the beautiful Allegiant Stadium.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner! Our family tradition involves indulging in heart-shaped pizza and pairing it with a Caesar salad. A tradition we started when our children were young continues in their respective homes when we can't be together - now it involves us sending a gift card to their favorite local pizza spot! To add to the festive spirit, take a look at the fun ideas listed below to help you celebrate this day of love with your family.

Remember to stay connected, and let's make this February one to remember!

Heartfelt wishes,

Valentine's Day At Home

We compiled some fun family ideas for Valentine's Day that don't require you to leave your home!

  • Make a Valentine's Day meal together: Think love and whatever that means to your family. Choose traditional Valentine's Day foods like strawberries and sweets or plan a meal that incorporates the foods your family loves, allow each person to pick one dish and then make it together.
  • Make it a movie night: Grab your favorite movies and a bucket of popcorn and enjoy a movie together. Don't forget the comfy blankets!
  • Make it a game night: Do you have board games collecting dust? This is the time to take them out! Have some friendly competition with your family with some games.
  • Make it crafty: Are crafts more your style? Visit Pinterest and make colorful hearts and beaded art - the kids will love keeping their hands busy and you will have something new to add to the fridge.
  • Show love: The best thing about love is it doesn't need to be a grand gesture. Plan what your family loves whether it is a hike, watching funny YouTube videos together, or a quiet meal at home. Anytime can be family time!
