Join us for an evening out in support of land preservation and clean water. Our annual fundraiser will be held on the beautiful grounds of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Parkville, MD. We will be showcasing the conservation gardens that St. Demetrios has implemented this year in partnership with GVC and Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake.

Climate Change & The Gunpowder
Is the Gunpowder Falls your happy place? Do you value clean drinking water for the greater Baltimore area? Are you concerned about how climate change is and will be affecting communities in our part of the Chesapeake Bay? If so, your voice is needed to join the discussion at the inaugural Gunpowder Watershed Forum on Wednesday, June 15th from 5 – 9 pm in Parkville, Maryland.

The Gunpowder Watershed Forum is FREE and includes dinner (vegan, vegetarian, and omnivore options)! Make sure to RSVP to hold a spot because the event will be capped at 75 participants.

Fond Farewell To Our Departing Board Members
Board Members are some of the most important volunteers we have on our team. They might not always be the ones outdoors getting their hands dirty, but we can always rely on them to hold GVC to a higher standard. Thank you to ALL of our GVC Board Members for donating your time and talents to enriching our organization and helping us achieve our mission.

Buy a Rain Barrel from GVC
There's still time to reserve your spot at one of our rain barrel workshops in June.

Anyone is welcome to attend our workshops for FREE to learn more about the benefits of rain barrels and how to properly maintain them. If you are interested in purchasing a rain barrel (or two), you'll just need to provide the number and color of rain barrels you'd like, as well as your mailing address when you register. This allows our staff to determine whether you are eligible for our Clear Creeks Project 50% discount, which is based on your property's location within the Gunpowder Watershed.
In Other News...
Tree Maintenance Volunteers
Planting trees in the ground is just the beginning. Young trees are vulnerable to deer browsing and competition with surrounding vegetation. GVC is seeking Tree Maintenance volunteers to help make sure our trees grow into healthy forests. Spend some time outdoors, remove unwanted plants, and make sure the trees are growing properly.

Treasure the Chesapeake
A welcome escape from virtual meetings! GVC staff and volunteers had a wonderful time at Chesapeake Bay Trust's Treasure the Bay celebration earlier this month.

Cool Critters
It's true. Our volunteer stream captains often have trashy jobs. They spend their free time coordinating stream clean-ups of garbage and other refuse that have made their way to our local parks and streams.

There are, however, some rewarding perks to being the eyes and ears of our local waterways. Just ask Bubba.

Carl "Bubba" Gold attended the GVC's Adopt-a-Stream training earlier this year. He now monitors a small tributary to Minebank Run. He recently shared some fun pictures of the "critters" he has encountered on his recent stream walks Did you know the presence of certain aquatic insects is considered an indicator of healthy water?! Thanks, Bubba, and all our amazing Stream Captains!
